That's so great, Jennifer! Did they ask questions about daycare, siblings in school, smoking, fireplaces, etc? The only question we were able to answer yes to was having relatives with fireplaces in their homes, so I'm not holding out much hope for getting the shots approved, but I'm holding out hope!

Has anyone with Harvard Pilgrim gotten the synargis shots approved?

Maybe I have no clue but what do fireplaces have to do with this? We have a gas wood burner (like the fake ones) but in the winter we use a wood burner, am I putting myself at risk here?

By the way Alayna is so beautiful!

Thanks,

Hi Kelli,

Yes, wood burning is a serious risk, even for people without cf. Here's what the American Lung Association says in its fact sheet:

Quote

The health effects of woodsmoke exposure include increased respiratory symptoms, increased hospital admissions for lower respiratory infections, exacerbation of asthma, and decreased breathing ability. Population studies have shown that young children, the elderly, and people with preexisting cardiopulmonary disease are most likely to be affected. As a major contributor to particulate matter air pollution, woodsmoke can also be linked directly with a variety of other particulate matter-associated health effects, including increased risks of school absenteeism, emergency room visits and hospitalizations for cardiopulmonary conditions and premature death....The American Lung Association recommends that individuals avoid burning wood in homes where less polluting heating alternatives are available.

I have HMO Blue New England and they approved this for the second year in a row for Bennett. I called my case manager to plead my case this year. My doctor didn't think we would qualify but we got our approval without any issues. Good luck. Paula

We have Blue Cross Blue Shield Select Choice and they had refused to cover the shots, saying CF didn't qualify under their criteria. We had an attorney write a letter to them saying that the cost of the shots far outweighed lung damage and extended hospital stay should ds contract rsv. Within MINUTES we were approved to the series of shots.

I just got a call saying that my daughter had been approved for the synargis shot as well. I'm so happy and shocked! We have Harvard Pilgrim HMO, and don't fit any of the criteria they look for, so I am amazed that it was approved 100%. Needless to say, I am loving Harvard Pilgrim right now!

We have Medco insurance (it is a prescription coverage). We just found out today that they will cover the vaccination at 100%.
