My 3 year old with CF has recevied Synagis every Winter since his birth. This year he was denied by the insurance carrier due to his age. I have appealed the decision and will have a hearing to get them approved. They said to find info that shows they are beneficial to him at 3.
Has anyone else ever fought this battle? Any ideas where to get th info?

Thanks!!

ps I also have a 7 month old w/ CF who is getting them.

DS only had them the first year, but we struggled to get initial approval -- took a letter from an attorney to the insurance company and he was approved asap.

I didn't know they did synagis shots for older children. I know preemies it's usually the first two years. With DS his doctor explained the importance of protecting newborns because of their teeny tiny airways, but that most children eventually get RSV; however, as they get older it's not as severe because the develop an immunity.

But I suppose having a new baby at home, you don't want your older child picking up rsv and giving it too the new baby... Could that be a rationale for approval?

My daughter will be 3 in Jan. she will not be getting the shots this year. The Dr. didn't order them for her. He said she was too big for them now. She did have them the last 2 winter seasons though.
