Teething infant NOT eating!

Toby is 4 months old now and I'm about 99% sure he's teething. He'll eat at times, but never the full 5oz that he was a week ago. Now, he's only eaten a total of 7oz today and refuses to eat anymore! I don't know what to do. I've tried everything that a mother would do for a teething baby (except orajel since I dont have any and have no $ to buy any). I have tried teething tablets, I tried teething rings, I tried giving him his formula COLD (because he kept crying as soon as the warm seemed to hit his mouth)... I have no idea what to do, as we all know how important it is for a CF baby to eat.

He was only 12 lbs at his last appointment to the Pediatrician, so I am going to ask clinic tomorrow about a feeding tube. He is never going to get out of the 5%ile or below for his size at this rate!

Any suggestions of what you did to feed your teething baby that refuses to eat??

Are you sure he's teething? DS did this to us a few times, sometimes he was a little constipated and a couple other times it was a sure sign he was getting an ear infection. Didn't start with a fever, but with a little more sleeping, fussiness and the biggy was the lack of interest in eating.

DS didn't get teeth until he was 8 months old -- lots of false alarms of drooling and cutting back on his bottle feeding.

My baby doesn't have CF but her teething has been pretty bad. My suggestion is to inquire about starting solids along with any care for CF issues. If you can spoon feed soft food maybe that would be more appealing and easier on the gums. Bananas and rice cereal are great to start with. You can even make the cereal with formula rather than water. Just a thought. I hope you find what works.

Well, I am not sure if i should be happy, but if it was the beginnings of teething, it only lasted about 3-4 days! Whew!!

It could have easily been just him having effects from his 4 month vaccinations... but either way, I mentioned it to his dietician and she wasnt concerned because hes had weight gain.

I have also tried him on solids and hes not about them as much as his bottle, but i am still giving them to him 1x a day for now, per all of his docs and then to increase once he eats a whole jar and/or 2oz of cereal.

Gotta love the drool though! hahaha

He also makes it so much fun to spoon feed him, with the putting of the hands in the mouth, getting the food ALL OVER him and his bib (which also winds up in his mouth! LOL)... but it really is the cutest, yet messiest thing ever!

Teething could last MONTHS for some babies- so i just hope it doesnt go that far. BUT, i do have some baby tylenol, orajel and many teething rings and frozen washcloths ready to go for any additional episodes we might wind up with!
