Terrible Doc/Nurse Stories!

The doctors I've had have always been good... and here's why: I would refuse to see ones I didn't trust. LOL I was a little brat. I met one at age 10 that I HATED. I saw her twice, and told my clinic I wouldn't see her anymore. I never saw her again.

I have had sh*tty nurses though. My quick story... I had just had a hysterectomy... I was 18. I was still in and out of anesthesia, and some people react poorly to it. My body reacts fine, but I get all mixed up emotionally. So I was crying. I don't even remember why. But I was and some nurse looked at me and with this huge snooty attitude, said "Little girl, it won't help to cry." Little girl? Excuse me?! I'm EIGHTEEN and I just had my UTERUS ripped out. I actually turned in my haze to say to her in my attitude voice "Do NOT call me Little Girl." My mom told me that part after, she was proud I had the sense, even in the haze, to tell the woman off.

I also one time had ENTs at my clinic look up my nose for polyps. I was very young. They had a camera on a tube and stuck it up there. They pushed it up pretty far, and it hurt. I started screaming, and they just kept pushing through. My mom finally yelled at them "Don't you hear her SCREAMING?!" and we never saw them again either.

My best story... Before the hysterectomy I mentioned, I had to have a second opinion so that insurance would approve it. I saw this guy my obgyn suggested. I was nervous about seeing a guy, I never had. So I was obviously nervous when he came in. He told me to calm down, that it'd be okay. He did an exam, and wanted to do some painful test that my obgyn had already done. So I told him it had been done, and it hurt. He got ALL mad. He had a huge "I'm a doctor, don't question my authority" attitude. Then he mentioned something about "rectal" and before I could open my mouth, he had his finger in my @ss. Not only that, but he JAMMED it up there. And he hadn't checked my chart. I had had surgery on my @ss only 4 months prior to that visit. I started screaming at the top of my sad little lungs, and he very quickly left the room. My mom followed him to yell at him and while they were gone, I cleaned up all the blood. He had basically ripped through a scar. It was fantastic.

I guess as a rule I have been lucky, but I remember one time when I was maybe 9/10. The hospital I go to is a catholic hospital & there was a man who was not a Father (priest), but a Brother or something to that affect. He was still studying in the priesthood, but was also studying medicine in some capacity....cant remember what. Anyway I had been in for a quite a length of time & my veins were shot. They werent using PICCS back then so he wanted to put an IV in my foot & I freaked. I went off & they had to call my Mom who was 3 hours upstate to calm me down. He tried putting warm compresses on my arms to get the soreness out & try to find a vein, but I would no longer let him touch me. He totally lost his cool both as a medical professional & a man of the cloth. Well excuse me all to hell, but I am a little girl whose parents/family/friends are hundreds of miles away & I have been poked & prodded & have had enough......FLASHBACK....calm down Melissa, calm down......

OKay two badones off the top of my head.

1. when I was 10 or something I was in the hospital and my Mom was sitting in the room with me when this Dr. who i have NEVER seen before walks into my room holding a gown (I always wear my own pj's in the hospital I mean give me a break) and without even introducing herslef or anything says to me "put this on" (throws gown at me...and I said something to the affect of "I always wear my own pj's but thanks anyway" (politely though, back then I was polite about saying piss offf) so the Dr. says "you have about 10 seconds to get out of your clothes and into this gown beofre I start cutting them off of you" I KID YOU NOT! So my Mom stands up and says "first...WHO ARE YOU? she mumbles her name...my mom says AND WHAT KIND OF EXAMINE IS IT YOU PLAN ON DOING...Dr. says all snooty "a FULL body examine" my eyes must have been as big as saucers...I was scared wittless...my Mom says to the Dr.- in this voice I didn't recognize but knew it meant death-I need to see you in the hall RIGHT now. Man...I didn't know my Mom knew those kinds of words that were flying outside my door. I NEVER saw that Dr. on the floor again even...someone said she got bumped to mopping floors. My Mom ripped her a new one and then got my Dr. on the phone and ripped them one for letting her in my room. A nurse later came by to say "way to go Mom, she was a b*@%^ and all the nurses hate her". That was TRAUMATIC. even though it worked out and set a good example for me to stick up for myslef it has always left me very wary about being "exposed" and vulnerable in the hospital.

Story 2. is just a story of a nice nurse with unfortunate judgement. I had a male nurse who I liked very much but he one night had the bright idea of drawing my blood while I was asleep. Yah lets take a minute and absorb that..... SLEEP THROUGH A BLOOD DRAW? Bird brain!!!! He stuck the needle into the vein that runs over your thumb joint..you know what I mean? Anyway...yah I didn't sleep through that and it hurt and I was PISSED. he felt horrible and tried to explain he thought it would be better that IF I woke up it would already be over and I hadn't worried about it for hours before getting worked up. Then I explained that's a great little plan excpet one BIG flaw. I will NEVER sleep peacefully here again with you as my nurse. I don't trust you. I started sleeping during the day when my mom would come to sit with me and stay awake all night. I literally did that for the next few visits and I always made sure I never had him as a nurse again. It's ahrd enough sleeping in there you don't need to feel you're going to be taken unaware in your sleep. I should maybe mention it was well known and even written in my chart that I need a 2 hr warning before any "needle" tests...cuz I still needed my Mommy Don't laugh...sometimes I STILL need my Mommy!

you never stop needing your mummy Debbie I still like my mum around when I'm sick

Well here's Kj's story,

Before port;

As she had lost a whole heap of veins from operation as a baby, her veins were always hard to access and would always collapse as a baby they had to resort to putting the needles in her head and feet.

well as tune ups became more frequenther veins just werent working and the only one to do a good job of finding good veins was her paediatrician. but he was only called in because the trainee docs kept stuffing up.

so the time came when her doc said its time for a port as he hated making Kj cry. age 9,
he tells me to ask them to access the port while she was under anasetic so as not to cause her more pain after the op.

We get up to the hospital in Melbourne and they decide that they would try a long line first (wouldnt believe Kj's doc that her veins were stuffed) well after lots of my brave girl crying and me nearly fainting they came upon the conclusion that yeah her veins were stuffed.

So her operation was scheduled and i told the docs to access her port while she was still under, they said yeah they would. She has her op, we wait ages for her to wake up from it (she likes sleeping lol)
and find out they didnt access it. later they came around and found out the needle in her arm wouldnt work, so they had to access her port thus causing Kj unnecessary pain. I was very angry.

hmm..well mine are even close to any of yours, and I thought mine were bad!

Last time I was in the hospital, the respiratory therapist said that they were so busy that they would not be able to give me my nebulizer treatments. he assured me that it was alright because it was actually better to just do the inhalers instead of the nebulizers. He said they were more effective. I obviously never heard of that but he was the head respiratory guy and HE WAS DATING SOMEONE WITH CF!! so i thought to trust him.

I also got my meds all mixed up and the nurse gave me 80 mg of prednisone instead of 10. That was a fun time.

So after puffing up like a chipmunk and doing no nebs for 5 days they let me go.

great time
