Does anyone have a ballpark on how much either Quest or Ambry charge for the expanded genetic test (assuming insurance doesn't cover any of it)? Thanks.

for Ambry, the ballpark they gave me was around $2900. Although that was well over a year ago and we all know how inflation works. I know ambry (or a representative) has posted around here before. Maybe they can give some info.....

If all else fails I'd say visit their website, (www.ambrygen.com) and quest Diagnostics (I just always google quest diagnositcs) and get their contact phone number or email.

Our most comprehensive test is the CF Amplified. The list price is $3190. Yes Julie we all have to deal with increased costs. However, this went into effect on 2-1-06 and we have no immediate plans to increase prices for the near future. However, it is possible that many patient will have their mutations identified without having to perform detailed deletion studies which would lower the price to $2594.

Regarding insurance coverage, we have had excellent response from most companies. It is highly unlikely the tests would not be covered for diagnostic testing. However, we are aware there are always exceptions and each plan and coverage can differ. We do offer special circumstances and will work with patients on a case by case basis to help get the testing done if at all possible.

I would suggest contacting us to discuss any situations like this. Also we do offer a program of insurance preverification. There is a form on our website where you can fill it out and send it in so you can know if there is coverage before you even have the test.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Steve. I didn't mean the inflation negatively, hope you didn't take it that way. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">, I was just implying it's likely prices have increased since I got my info. Although, based on what you said not really..... Great to see but I also understand the company has to survive!

I'm glad to see you on here, it's so helpful when can answer our questions!!!!

No Julie I didn't take it negatively. We are aware of pricing issues and obviously health care costs are going up for everyone. That is one reason why we developed a step wise testing approach to be more cost effective. Obviously we would make more money doing more testing on every patient. But that is not what we are about. We do care about the patients and want everyone to get what they need. Of course it is expensive and I too want the company to survive.

I appreciate all the kind words. Of course I do not get to read most of the posting due to time constraints. I would recommend if anyone every has any questions they can email me directly or go to our website and send a message under contact us. Those emails are sent to the appropriate people including myself (I answer many of those emails) and a response is usually the same day.

I cant always be this fast Melissa, but I do my best.

Best of luck everyone, I am heading out of the office now.

Steve
