Testing for CFRD

I know I posted on this topic awhile back, but I have some more questions. Tucker went in for his 3 month check up a couple of weeks ago. His check up went fairly well, other than the fact that he hasn't put on one ounce since his last visit. This concerned the doc some, but he said we should continue to monitor the number of stools he is having, what he eats, etc. He is on the highest dose of enzymes he can have for his age. So, they aren't sure as to why he isn't putting on weight.

Well, as I said in my post before, he has been urinating A LOT, as well as drinking lots. I took him to his regular pediatrician a few months ago concerning this. They checked his urine for sugar, which came back negative. The doc thought it was just a "behavioral thing" and said to see if it continues. Well, it has continued to the point that his teacher voiced a concern a couple of days ago over how often he is using the bathroom and how much water he is drinking at school. So, I called the CF clinic yesterday and spoke to a nurse and let her know of my concerns. She said when they drew blood at his last visit, his random blood sugar at that time was 97, which she said was "within the normal range". She was unable to give me any explanation as to why the increased frequency of urination, as well as increased thirst. She too told me to "wait it out".

My question is this. Do I go with my gut and just take him in to get a fasting blood glucose level on him, or do I just "wait it out"? I know this isn't a "behavioral" thing, as he has had this problem for the past 6 months or so. If it is not related to sugars, then maybe he needs some type of bladder work up or some further testing to explain this all.

I don't know . . . maybe I am overreacting. I am a worry wart!! I just don't want to miss the boat on this. Maybe he is too young to even have CFRD (He is almost 7). Any input or suggestions would be much appreciated. Sorry this post ended up being so long.

The blood test they did isnt always an accurate indicator. I dont see what it would hurt to have his GTT done. If nothing else to rule out diabetes.

HUGS to you!

I think that anytime your gut is telling you something is wrong, you should follow it through. Maybe you are worrying over nothing, but you won't know unless you check it out. Let us know what happens.
