That is correct, in order to use the chatroom feature you must be logged into the forums (meaning you registered an account). Once you are logged in you can go to the chatroom by clicking on the "chat" button which is located in the top right-hand corner (this can only be seen when you're logged in).

Registration to the forum is completely free and can be do so by clicking <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.cysticfibrosis.com/reg.cfm">here</a>.
