The Vest and Hotel Stays

DS has an appointment later in the month and this is going to be the first time we've stayed at a hotel while using the vest. We've travelled, stayed at other people's vacation homes and done the vest. Just wondering if hotel security is going to pound on the door wondering what the heck is going on?

In the past I have worried about disturbing other guests while doing nebs with the compressor while beating him. Just a brand new experience to deal with and feel kinda weird about the whole thing.

We've never had an issue with it - hotels are fairly well sound insulated, otherwise you'd be hearing *lots* of other things you didn't want to.

I've never had a problem. No one has ever said anything all these years. They dont make as much sound as you might think. What model vest do you have? the smaller one with the duffle bag? I actually leave my vest machine in the duffle bag, folding back the flap and sitting my vest on the luggage stand. Gets it off the floor and gives it some cussion and helps with the sound.

It's the Hill-Rom 104 with the duffle bag. Figure the pari compressor can be fairly loud, too and nobody's said anything. And we have gotten headphones for DS's portable DVD player.

I wouldnt worry about it. The coughing during might be more of a concern then the vest itself. If in doubt let the front desk know about a medical condition which might make it "sound" awful, but its not!

Hi Liza,

I don't do the vest because traditional chest PT is still offered in Massachusetts. However, my husband and I ALWAYS end up doing my PT in hotels when we have to travel and it's always an anxiety-ridden issue for me.

We try to book a corner room, away from elevators and ice machines, and on a high floor because they tend to be quieter and have less foot traffic. We've had to do chest PT early in the morning or before dinner when I know everyone must be relaxing in their rooms. I try to focus on other things and not worry what other people are thinking, but I do remain paranoid about getting phone calls or knocks on the door. My husband could give a crap, but hey, that's me. Still, I know that I don't have a choice so I suck it up. We turn the TV on pretty high to help drown out the noise. Only once did a manager call with the people (a bunch of hung over college kids) complaining from next door and wondering what the sound was. My husband explained it was a medical treatment and told the manager it was not optional. The manager was very understanding and basically apologized for bothering us. The whole thing stinks, but it has to be done. Your child's comfort and well-being must override other peoples' frustration/curiousity.
