Hiya,

We live in the UK and 'The Vest' hasn't really hit here - how many of you use it on your children?

Grateful for any advice?

Hi Charlotte!
My son is 2 1/2 and in July it will be a year that we've been using the Vest. LOVE IT! Any specific questions??? Glad to answer any!

Hi Amanda,

Our daughter will be 2 1/2 in June. No-one has recommended The Vest to us. I asked in the CF Clinic, but they didn't seem to think many people used it - probably because of the expense. Where do you live?

I live in Indiana (USA). Most of the people I know (or their kids) do use the vest. You can email me at "Amanda_Roberts76@sbcglobal.net" if you'd like. Yes, the Vest is expensive, but most insurance companies cover at least some, if not most, of the cost. Not sure how that works in the UK?

No. Some do both. I guess it depends on what clinic you go to and what each dr. recommends. Most of the kids that I know only do Vest, but each person is different. I do know some kids just don't like the vest. My son prefers it over manual. We were getting to the point where it was a huge fight every time we did manual. He would just cry and fight the whole time. It's still a small fight to get his Vest on, but once we actually get it on, he's fine. lol!!!!

Sometimes if he's sick (congested) I'll do a little extra manual, but usually just have him do Vest a few extra times a day.

Hope that helps?

Hi I have a 9yr old son that loves the vest and he has been doing it since he was about 4yrs old. Our clinic introduced it to us and it is easy and it works.

Our doctor told us he'd prefer we wait until our son is 4. We do CPT 3-4 times a day and I kinda like the time I spend with him. If he has tobi or pulmozyme we hang out and watch cartoons together, read books and eat snacks. L

My son, almost 2, just got the vest a few weeks ago and he really likes it. We do it 2x day for 20 minutes each time.

go to www.thevest.com and look up clinical studies.

the science is clear - the Vest is far superior to manual physical therapy.

our son is going to be 2 in June and is going to be fitted for the vest his next visit (1 day before his birthday). I'm not sure what the routine will be but I have heard only positive stuff about it. Our clinic starts everyone when their around 2 as "preventative maintenance" so to speak.

Hi All, Does anyone know how early you can start to use the vest with a child? It appears to be approx. 2years old? I can't wait to get the vest, have been researching info, regarding them and they sound fantastic.

I think it might depend on the size of the child, probably different at different clinics. Ours was 21 inches around the chest.

Our now 2 1/2 year started at 20 months and she was very small (not even on the growth charts.) They came out with a smaller vest shorlty after she was diagnosed.

I would absolutely recommend it. It is so much easer than the manual method and our daughter is much more tolerant. She actually looks forward to it since it is the only time she gets to watch TV. She has fallen asleep several times during the treatment.

We do 30 minutes twice a day with no other PFT. And we can use the nebulizer at the same time.

Thanks for all your messages. I'll mention it to my daughter's Consultant.
