i have posted previously about my 6 month old son but have two more questions....

my son has failure to thrive and ng tube because he hates eating and drinking, i see that most CF kids eat and drink alot so can it be that food aversion is a sign?

when baylee is not sick with some chest infection or something he has a chronic cough that is dry and worse at night but sometimes sounds a little wet, can they have a dry sounding cough or does it always sound chesty?

thanks again.

Hi.

Well my 6 yr old with cf never has been a big eater. He will say he is hungry and then eat 2 bites and say he is done. I have always heard cf kids have a big appetite also. I keep thinking some day maybe that will be the case. He has had a g-tube since March 1st so that is helping.

About the cough, our son will not have a cough during the day and sometimes at night cough like crazy. He has had a very dry cough and a wet cough. We have several times had to take him to the emergency room because he can't breath and his lips have actually turned blue. His chest caves in and he scares the crap out of us. Since then they have given us a prescription for Racepinephine. It is an aeorsal and that always seem to settle him down. Usually after this they put him on Oraphred for 5 days and then he is fine. It is usually a real croupy cough. Don't know why he does this so often. They also say take him in the cool air at night to help the cough or run a HOT shower and let him breath the steam. I do know if my son is in the cool damp night air or if he swims in the cool air, etc., he for sure will be up coughing all night.

Hope this helps you some.

Many of us were diagnosed with failure to thrive - this is how the CF diagnosis came about. So food aversion definately isn't a sign against CF.

Dry cough is definately something we all can have.
