Well, yesterday when my daughter took Grayson to the clinic they admitted her right away. Poor baby is back in the hospital after only being home for a month. They didn't inform us that 3 weeks ago that she had cultured pseudo and staph? WTH is wrong with this place? We kept calling them because we knew something was not right and they just sent her to the reg pediatrition (who said her lungs were clear)They want to treat this aggressively with IV's for 2 weeks!!!!Hopefully she'll be home for christmas. My daughter is a wreck she thinks its her fault, I think its the drs fault that this was not treated right away and that they didn't tell us this when we called them over and over again. I am about all cried out now and am just really ticked off now. I know these things left untreated will damage her lungs. I am just venting and i just want to know if anyone else has had these things happen at their clinic's. I want to go somewhere else. I am afraid for Grayson if this continues to be there practice.

Ugh!!! I'm so sorry that she's back in. It definitely is not your (or anyone in your family's) fault. It is the clinics fault for not listening and telling you what she had. I would at this point definitely try to find another hospital that can deal with CF if there is one near you! I hope that she gets better soon and doesn't have to spend her first Christmas in the hospital.

Just from experience I've learned not to bother with the primary doctor for CF lung issues. We took M to the family doctor who declared is lungs sounded 'great'. Two days later, his CF doctor wanted to hospitalize him. I've noticed that resident and newly minted attending Pulmonologists don't even have a sharp enough ear to hear what is really going on in his lungs sometimes.

If I suspect an issue, I call the clinic. When I get blown off by the nurses, I ask they consult the doctor. I always get blown off by the nurses first. If that doesn't work, I'd make an appointment with the CF doctor next time and demand the EXPERT listen to those lungs. I just haven't found anyone else capable of hearing small things that are so vital and could go back fast.

We all live and learn. I let the nurse blow me off twice before I happened to take him into clinic 2 days later that was prescheduled. Doctor started to lecture me and I pointed out that HIS nurse was the one who blew me off. That's how I learned to demand the nurses consult with the CF doctor directly. But, its possible the nastiness we've battled for 3 months now is because I let it settle too deeply into his lungs when I let those same nurses blow me off twice.

Get her healthy this time and file this away for the next time. Sadly with this journey there will always be a next time to apply what we learn and do it better later.

It has happened to us before. DS was 2 months old and coughed so hard he'd throw up constantly. The local cf doctor has always told me DS has had clear lungs and wasn't concerned. After finding out he was culturing something and a bout with bronchitis, I've taken to filling out a request for information form after every appointment and having the labs, cultures, xray reports and doctors notes mailed to me. I then forward them on to his primary CF doctor in the city.

Regular doctors don't exactly know what to listen to. What we do if DS develops a cough or wheeze is to add an extra CPT and neb treatment -- we do 3 on a regular basis and we call his CF doctor if it continues more than a couple of days because currently he normally doesn't cough. If he's coughing, for us it means he's coming down with something.

And it's not your daughter's fault. Unfortuately it sounds as if the clinic dropped the ball. My experience taught me to speak up if I feel something isn't right. I still feel weird, but as my husband reminds me -- we're the customer and we're paying for the clinic services.
