so ive been taking mucinex twice a day for awhile now.. and it doesnt seem to be working.. i think my only problem is thick cervical mucas because i have a son.. so that means i ovulate and all that mess right?

i was really young (16) when i had him so could i now have fertility problems? i was thinking maybe my cervical mucas just got thicker as i got older!

if it is just a mucas problem what things should i be doing to thin it out.. besides mucinex!

oh and should i take mucinex all the time or only right before and while i ovulate?

hmm this is all just really confusing..

thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

How long have you been trying? Sometimes it just takes a while, even if you got PG quickly with your first child. Has your period been regular? And are you charting or using OPKs? Is the person you are trying to have a child with the same person who fathered your son (I ask this because, if it's not, the problem COULD be him, not you).

Mucinex is the only thing I know of to thin out CM. Are you taking maximum strength? I noticed switching to max strength helped a little.

I take the mucinex from my period until after ovulation is confirmed - which I do through charting. Charting is when you take your temperature each morning before getting out of bed and tracking your cervical mucus. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is very helpful in learning about charting, as is the site FertilityFriend.com.

OPKs are Ovulation Prediction Kits, you can guy them at any drugstore, Target, Walmart, grocerty store, etc. OPKs are tests you pee on that tell you if your body is gearing up to ovulate. However, keep in mind your body can gear up to ovulate and then not, which means you can get a positive OPK and then not ovulate - only charting can confirm if you actually did ovulate.

I can take the average couple up to a year to get pregnant. However, with CF, cervical mucus may be an issue and you may want to go see your OB/GYN if you aren't pregnant after 6 months of trying.
