Those with major lower back pain (and no relief)

Have any of you with major lower bad pain ever changed to the Temper-pedic mattress, and found that it helped?

I don't know how to pick a mattress since it actually takes a few nights of sleeping on one, to know if it's any better than the one I have. Since that isn't possible and I'm sooooo curious about this Temper-pedic mattress, I was wondering if any of you (with back problems) have had experience with it.

Sally, My mattress was so old, it was killing me and my husband (i did have back problems, and have had back surgery) We bought the temper-pedic, our backs are alot better, but i think any good mattress would make a difference... Joni 55 y/o f w c/f

That's not necessarily true. I got a new mattress once (good quality one) and it didn't help one bit (and I was pissed). However, now that my sleeping troubles are more under control, a new mattress might help, but I'm still wondering if a Temper-pedic is BETTER than any quality new mattress?

I have suffered from terrible back pains for many years and spent thousands of dollars on high quality inner spring mattress that promised to be good for backs all have failed me.

About a month ago I gave in after talking to a friend who had a tempur pedic mattress and purchased one. It is the best money I ever spent. My husband had some back problems as well and we noticed a drastic decline in pain after just the first night. After a month even with being sick and coughing a lot I have near no back pain and look forward to going to sleep at night.

I cannot say how similar mattress (other brands) may compare but I have this Tempur Pedic <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.tempurpedic.com/TempurCMSVB/sleepsystems/deluxe/">Tempur Pedic Deluxe</a> I would certainly recommend it to anyone as I never would have imagined I could be back pain free.

Good Luck to you and feel better <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I haven't found any matress that has helped me long term.
The only thing that helped me is going to the chiropractor every week. They can also suggest a good matress for you. I know its a pain to go to another doc appointment every week-but they really help me.

Have you been to a doc about your back problems? I am asking because do you KNOW that your back problems are caused by your sleeping and the mattress you are using?

I had pretty severe lower back problems in middle school and high school. I still had some mild pain into my 20s and now. I went to the doc about it in high school because I couldn't even bend over without crying in pain. My lower back pain ended up being related too tight hamstrings and my breathing.

The doc said that my hamstrings were tight - and thus were pulling DOWN on my lower back muscles. While at the same time my upper back muscles were pretty much always contracting since I breathe more rapidly and cough more often due to CF - so they were pulling UP on my lower back muscles. The combination of the pulling up AND down was causing the strain in my lower back and THAT was what was making it painful to do most anything. I had to go to physical therapy for a while and now just have to stretch regularly to keep the problem at bay. I do notice that if I go a few days WITHOUT stretching my hamstrings I get tight in my lower back and start to get pain with simple tasks as well.

I bring this up again because it may be your mattress causing the problem but then again it may be something else and a mattress may not help with that problem.

I hope you get it worked out - I know just for comforts sake I got one of those mattress pads to put on top of my mattress and I sleep a bit better with it - I do NOT toss and turn as much as usual.

Take Care,
Lindsey
