throat CX "bumped"

Hey there everyone! I posted this on my blog but hoping to get more responses here! Ashton has cultured strep pneumoniae. i think its kind of interesting considering he just got over strep throat.. my clinic says they are not related and we dont need to treat him.. His throat was still a little red at clinic but wasent given antibiotics. Wanted everyone elses opinion on if they have delt with this. I have researched on the internet and found that it can lead to OM, menegitis, pneumonia (of course) and a few others.. Thanks for your input. The clinic is mailing me the actual CX results so i will give exact wording when i get that! Thanks

I'm assuming this is your CF clinic and not regular peds clinic... IMO, I'd be just as worried as you are and would probably see about contacting an infectious disease specialist. Our CF doctor is also an ID specialist and I seem to recall him mentioning various ABX in the event DS got sick from strep and being concerned about the potential for strep causing lung damage.

Yea this is the CF Clinic. Also he did have strep throat and we treated that with antibiotics. The strep pneumoniae wasent on the throat CX they took at the family doc when he got dx with strep. It did show up on the new cx at the CF clinic. The nurse at the clinic said it is not something that they treat in the CF lung. Then i read that in immunosuppresed pt's that it can cause those other bugs which i dont want to deal with!! Im lost!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Just bumping this up.. i saw that i had 105 people look at it and only one response.. Interesting.. NO one else has delt with strep pneumoniae?? Thanks
