hey everyone- so i went to health services and they confirmed that i had thrush (im on TOBI and two abx so it wasnt that surprising) but i still havent ever had it cuase im usually good about brushing my teeth after TOBI.

anyways, i think i have a yest infection. i've had them a lot before and the OTC stuff always solves it. so, i can do that... but its a lil differnt this time and everything is a little more irritated down there than normal. does anyone have any ideas? comments/advice?

There are some on here that will recommend probiotics, eating a lot of yogurt with live cultures, things like that. The thing that worked THE MOST for me above anything when I dealt with this last winter was a prescription for Clotrimazole 10mg. It is a tablet you dissolve in your mouth 3x/day. That took care of it within about a day for me and I will turn to that every time in the future<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Learned that from another on this site. Hope this helps.

Hey Kate,

I pretty much have chronic thrush from taking Advair. I actually had to go on a lower dose of it due to the severity of my thrush. It might also be caused from the other inhaled abx I'm on too. I swish and swallow with Nystatin once a day (or less if I can). Whenever a doctor or dentist looks in my throat they're like, "Do you have a sore throat because I see white patches in there?" ...and then I have to explain that I have thrush all the time.

Whenever I'm on oral abx I end up getting a yeast infection usually also. They have that Diflucan pill that you can take which is just a single-dose pill that will take care of it. I just take the OTC stuff like Monistat or whatever because I'm allergic to Diflucan.

Well, good luck!

Hi Kate,

Skye is right -- Clotrimazole troches work amazingly well for thrush that is in your throat.

But now for your other yeast infection...assuming it is a yeast infection and not something like Gardeneralla (which is bacterial)...

When Monistat and similar OTC meds don't work, the yeast may be atypical.

Priobiotics can help but they have to have enough strains and enough live cultures:

1. a really effective probiotic is called Ther-Biotic Complete. It has 10 strains and high culture count. I take 1 in the am with food. Can get it on-line.
2. Then I take a less expensive brand also a 10 strain-- either from the Vitamin Shoppe (their own brand) or Vitacost. com (NSI probiotic 10 or 15)for lunch and dinner. If it's too much, cut back on these.
3.I have also used Natren Healthy Trinity found in the refrigerator at Vitamin Shoppe. It's only 3 strains, but very high in culture count. Ridiculously expensive.
4.Bio-K. yogurt --found in the refrigerator section at Whole Foods. Also ridiculously expensive. It's yogurt with 250 times the usual amount of cultures.

If you want to go the prescription route: When Monostat doesn't work. There is something called Zazole cream.

I start with the Ther-Biotic first and the other 10 strain probiotic first and see how it goes.

Also for preventing thrush in your throat, gargle a few times, spit it out. Then take a few sips of water and swallow.
