Tilt Board?

Just curios as to how everyone on here does their physio in regards to drainage. As a child I use to have a tilt board, or physio bench as its also known, where I would lay on it upright and do all my positions, then switch and do all my positions laying down upside down. A while back I lost mine in a fire, and have recently started looking for another one at my clinic. When I informed by doctor about wanting one, he looked at me like I was crazy, and said that adults don't use them. I'm curious if anyone on here uses one, and if not do you do any sort of upside down therapy, and if so how do you do it?

I haven't used a tilted pillow since before I got the vest. When I did use a percussor, I had one of those pillows that are kinda like spongy and usually are used for people to sit up in bed and read. I just inverted it and layed it that way on my bed. Then, I lay on top of it. It worked well. I had to replace it as it wore down, but that was it. I used this until late teenage years. I'm not sure wear you find them though.... may want to google it. Good Luck!

I havent had one since I was a kid, but havent done manual clapping at home in years. I now use the vest, BUT if I could do the manual clapping at home like I would like to, I would definitely find another board. In the hospital they tilt the bed itself. Laying over pillows doesnt work for me both in production & comfortability.

its not really a "pillow"... its more of a wedge. and, if you get it steep enough (like almost straight up and down when you read), you shouldn't need to put pillows on it. the one i had was very firm and more comfortable than stacking pillows... i HATED doing that when i'd go to hotels and such.... just didn't ever get the "height" i needed.

when I was a kid I just laid upside down on my parents legs, we never had a tilt board - but it sounds like it would be beneficial.

Currently I stack pillows, but it just isn't cutting it for me. My doc thinks I don't even have to do 'upside down' positions, but I find I get more out of me if I do. Just wondering what everyone else used as an alternative to a bench.

Hi Liz

We do our daughter's physio on a wedge but it is a bean bag texture. Seems to do the trick 4 us. I know that they also do 'beds' which tilt and stuff, but she's 2 young for that at mo.

Our doctor told us we don't need to tilt DS upside down 'cuz CPT gets the stuff to move stuff up and out. Plus, people don't hang upside down when they do the vest, do they? Liza

I chat with a gentleman from another forum that uses his vest while lying down. I did try it upon his recommendation, but I had to do it on the living floor since that is wear my vest is. It was very uncomfortable so I didnt get any benefit. I do know that in the hospital I try to lay down a bit before getting my treatment as I have definitely noticed it helps with the dranage!

I know a few people have done the vest while sleeping. I think that U of MN article talked about how Dr. Warwick had a patient wear the vest at night for a couple of hours. And there's a parent who straps his kids into the vest at 5:30 a.m. for their morning treatment.

Physically therapy wedges should do the same as the old tilt board. They have some made for adults. We use to use a sit up board when Cory was a teen.

We were told not to tilt our baby during PT because it can increase the reflux problems and cause more mucous to build up...anyone else ever hear that one?

I think when dealing with reflux its a different story. We are talking those without such problems.

I couldn't believe how expensive a therapy wedge is.
