tiring out easily

Is it common for toddlers w/ CF to tire out more easily? or any child/person for that matter w/ CF? It seems like Morgan is wearing out real easy and she's been taking a 4 hour nap the last few days. I just let her sleep the 4 hours b/c I feel like if she's sleeping that long she must need the sleep.

Thanks!

This is tough since kids go through growth spurts and teeting and developmental spurts where they require more sleep. We have a 2 year old and I notice when he is teeting and sometimes fighting something (cold) his sleep patterns change.

I would say if it is very drastic and she seems lethargic then you should get her checked out...test her blood levels (vitamins and electolytes), iron (for anemia), glucose levels (blood sugar), and do a sputum culture to be sure she isn't harboring a new bacteria which may need treatment. Your docs may have other suggestions as to what to look for of course.

Is she getting good calories throughout the day? Does she have signs of allergies (I have hayfever in the fall and am feeling it big time...wanting to sleep more)?

I would use your gut on this one and if it makes you concerned at all, it can't hurt to have a check-up. It will ease your mind.

Warmly,
Jody

My daughter tends to tire very easily. I dont know if it is from the heat or what. She had her monthly check-up last week and is culturing some bugs, but nothing major.

If sleeping 4 hours for naps every day isn't normal, I would get a blood test to see if her white blood cell count is elevated. She may be brewing an infection.

My son is a month younger than your daughter, but he doesn't tire easily. Everyone says what a ball of energy he is. If its really got you worried, I'd get her checked out. Maybe if my son is sick or its super hot and he's had a long day he might sleep more, but every kid is different. Plus I don't know if she's teething or what the weathers like there or even how she usually behaves. It wouldn't hurt to give the dr. a call. I hope everything works out ok for you guys and your daughters up and running as usual soon!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

When DS is home on the weekends a lot of times he has a 3-4 hour nap; however, he's always been this way. He stays up later than he probably should. He still gets enough sleep in terms of what a toddler his age should get. At his daycare he probably sleeps 2 1/2 hours, but there was mention by someone that they never EVER try to wake him up 'cuz he's such a crab.
