To Flush or Not to Flush?

Hi there,

I'll make this quick.......My sister bought my son a fish and fish bowl for Easter. Very sweet! But, my husband and I decided early on we would pass on having any fish in the house. I broke the "rule" and have allowed the fish bowl to sit up on the bar. Far out of our sons reach. My husband brought it up again..."I thought there was a NO standing water rule". I know he is right......but, do I have to flush "Fish" down the toilet?

Do any of you have fish bowls in your house. Is it okay as long as we don't touch and just look? It's just a bowl full of water, nothing fancy. That's what worries me it really is just standing water!

Thank,

Sarah

Sorry if this sounds silly........but I'm a "crazy" parent that worrys about everything.

Fish should be fine- the only potential problems come from the person with cf cleaning the tank.

If it's an open fish bowl (vs. an aquarium, which is covered and has a running filter and is not 'standing water') why don't you cover it? That eliminates the exposed 'standing water' concern, which I personally find to be minimal if you keep the water & bowl clean and he's not hovering over it, splashing... but may help you feel better about things. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Guess I am confused. Nothing new there. But I have fish tanks at my desk at the office and have had fish tanks at home - all enclosed with lids (as they were aquariums) and i still have one at home. Why are you not allowed to have a fish tank?

Forgive my ignorance as well, but what is the issue with a fish tank, and/or a small amount of standing water? We have a small fish bowl with a beta in our place, and I've never thought twice about it.
