Tobi Question

Our son (5 yr old w/cf) was recently put on Tobi (approx 8 days ago). We have noticed the hoarseness in his voice but he also seems to cough more directly after his Tobi. He does not cough much during the day.Has anyone else noticed this? We are concerned because the CF Clinic thouoght he was growing out psuedomonious (sp) but it turned out not to be. They had to send his culture off so see what the bacteria is since they could not identify it at Little Rock Childrens.

Hello, Anonymous. =-) TOBI makes my throat hoarse, too. Usually the worst is in the beginning of each cycle, then either I get used to it or it goes away a little bit; I don't know which. I've also noticed the thing with the coughing. I think it is probably normal. =-)Jarod22 with cf

I as well notice hoarseness wit TOBI...have even completely lost my voice before. Hopefully the coughing is the TOBI loosening the mucous! Good luck!Dea

more coughing and the voice change are normal side effects of the Tobi another one is fatigue. I took the stuff for 1 year did not enjoy it at all and It didn't for me. I hope it works for your son.Dave 29 w/cf

When my daughter started TOBI, she complained of a sore throat the first week. Then that went away. The second week, she did a lot of coughing, real "wet" coughs, not her usual thing. That went away too. The TOBI worked! She cultured negative for pseudemonas after the first month. She's doing 3 months total -- she had another negative the second month. If her next culture is negative, which it probably will be, she's done with the TOBI!! Such a hassle, but worth it, I guess.

Hi There,My son is 12months old and has been on TOBI for nearly 3 months now.He cultured Pseudomonas in a Cough Suction and is on a research on eradicating Pseudomonas. He started out with a husky and hoarse voice, then a wet cough as well and now nothing. In fact he is not even bothered by the TOBI now and giggles away at his video while sitting on the nebulizer. All the other children on this research in this country (New Zealand) have had pseudomonas successfully eradicated by the TOBI, so we are anxious to see if it has worked for my son.Good luckRebekahMother to Matthew 12mths WCF

I've been doing Tobi every other month for two years now. Each time I start I get a sore throat and lose my voice a bit. I have found that drinking a glass of milk before the treatment helps my throat out a bit. I also keep hard candy around when I'm taking Tobi. As for the coughing thing, I think it's normal. I usually start coughing more after a couple of days. It's a productive cough and I bring up more in that time than any other time. After the second week I usually feel better and have lots more energy. I hope this answers your question.
