TOBI question

We just started TOBI and I am a little confused. When they taught us to use the nebulizer at the hospital, they said that the treatment is finished when it starts to make a different sound. Kind of like a hissing. Anyway, when it starts to do that and we finish treatment, there is always some liquid left in the nebulizer and I am worried that my son is not getting all of his medicine. Is there supposed to be anything left in there, or are we stopping too early? Thanks for your help!

Hi, my daughter nebulises colomycin twice a day. Treatment's finished when there is no liquid left at the bottom. Sometimes froth is left, but don't worry about that. Good luck.

PS Never used tobi b4, so not sure if it goes frothy. If there is still liquid at bottom though, treatment is definitely not finished.

Unless you are using the pari eflow, or other similar nebulizers, in which case there is always liquid left. With the pari eflow, there is 1ml left after every use, by design

Carrie,

All neb kits work differently, most neb kits just won't nebulize all of the meds, most of it but not all of it. RT's teach start to "sputter" because that is the general rule. Once they sputter there isn't enough liquid in the bottom of the cup to continue to nebulize. I always give it one or two shakes and get the medicine off the side of the walls and wait for it to sputter again. I then open the neb kit and let any left over "blow out" so that there won't be as much liquid left for bacteria to grow in.

Hey Liz

Charlotte here, how often do you wash and/or sterilise your neb.
