Hi all...Ellie is culturing staph (1+) and "normal flora" (4+). Just wondering when your or your child's doctors treat staph? I know it varies...but I've also learned of the theory that staph keeps other bacteria at bay (e.g., psuedomonas) and it many not be wise to treat it unless there are accompanying symptoms. Thoughts?

From what I remember reading.....a majority of our members handle it the way you state.

Only a few doctors &/or members have attacked staph.

Only when symptoms develop or if were are talking MRSA and not regular staph is treatment given.

My daughter cultures staph. She is three and a half and is finishing her third round of IV antibiotics and countless orals. BUT we only treat when she develops an active junky cough (usually after a virus or illness) that she can't get rid of as a result of an overgrowth of staph.

Paige just cultured Staph for the first time. I know what you're going through! They are treating hers with Cephalexin. They said it's no big deal though, and it really does keep away some of the more worse stuff.
