Hi,

I was wondering how long it takes to be put on the active list once you have been assesed. I have had my assesment but I haven't been put on the list yet, they say they are waiting on a microbiology plan. How long does this take???

Thanks.

Hi Busbie,
I guess the process and how long it takes all depends on where you are going. I have never heard of needing a microbiology plan...I don't even know what it is. I started my evaluations in June 2005 and then found out that I was 9 weeks pregnant that August so I put off further evaluations until after the pregnancy. I went back for evaluations again in March 2006, had to do a few more tests and then was listed in August 2006.

I probably would have been listed sooner than that but the doctors were debating on if they wante to do my lungs and liver together and they finally decided that they would. I went to the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH and they actually moved pretty quickly with me.

You may just have to ask your transplant clinic how much longer the process is going to take.

They may mean talking to an infectious disease specialist as to how they will treat you - abx wise or med wise post transplant. I only say that cause I know I had to meet with infectious disease doc during my evaluation. I finished all my testing fairly quickly but I still needed to meet with the transplant surgeon for a few weeks.

Once my evaluation was complete they were prepared to list me that day. I was going out of town though so they waited until I returned from vacation to list me.

I think it depends what they are waiting on the microbiology plan may be a part of their evaluation so even though the major testing is done the actual evaluation may not be done yet. Not sure if that makes sense.

I agree with Patti though it probably depends on the center a lot as well.

I went through my 3 day evaluation for transplant back in March (19, 20, 21), had to come see the transplant dr. on the 6th to discuss my allergies to antibiotics and was listed that day May 6. So I'd definetly give them at least 5 weeks before calling to see what your status is looking like.
