traveling with cayston

Most of us just started Cayston, but has anyone had the opportunity to travel with it yet...
I am going away (by car) for 3 days. I hate that I have to bring my big steam sterilizer. I'm wondering if there's another option.

Hi christian We have been traveling with our lil one since he came home from the hospital to go to his clinic visits. The trips are 4 hours so we stay over night in a hotel to make it a little easier on ourselves. We just get a room that has microwave and refrigerator. We bring some dish washing soap and a bowl that will fit in a microwave with us. We wash his stuff with the soap and then heat up water in the microwave until boiling and then just drop his stuff in it. We also brought a hand towel from home to lay on a table or counter in the room to let everything dry on. The bowl also came in handy on the road...We would stop and fill it with the HOT water from coffee machines at gas stations to warm his bottles up. It always feels like we're packing for an army when we travel with Kaleb lol So, we have just had to suck it up and realize we won't ever pack lightly again and lug his Vest machine and half the house with us lol I hope you have someone traveling with you to help out, thats always the greatest thing to bring along lol Best of luck on your travels!

Before the recommendation to use the Avent, what did they have everyone do to clean the eflow-type units? I know alcohol was involved. After washing all of it with soapy water, can the other pieces be boiled in a glass container in the hotel microwave and the head soaked in alcohol?

The sterilizers are big and clunky to carry... I imagine on top of hauling your vest, all the meds, your other neb stuff & compressor if you can't use the Altera/eflow for everything, you have little room left in your car for wait... your CLOTHES!! and your other things! I hope you have a nice time on your trip.

Do not boil the Altera!!! Wash all the pieces off, then drop them in soapy water, rinse them, then dunk them ALL in alcohol and lay out to dry.

I have been wondering about this too because I am on Cayston and flying next week, and trying to avoid bringing my steam sterilizer on the plane. I called the CF Pharmacy this week and spoke to a pharmacist. She recommended to rinse the handset using the Control III Solution that was used in the expanded access program (she said it can bought at any drug store without a prescription.) She said it probably is not AS good as the steam sterilizer but that it would be o.k. for my five day trip. I asked her about boiling and she said that the metal head should definitely NOT be boiled...the other parts of the handset would probably hold up to boiling but it is not recommended. I still haven't decided what I am going to do.
