Travelling with diabetes

Hi,

I just found out about a bag for the insulin-pen which keeps it cool.It contains some sort of gel and you have to make it wet. When its wet, it keeps the insulin cool for about 48 hours. Do you have anything like this in the USA and if yes, what is the price? Does someone have experiences with it?
As I am going to Thailand soon, I think this would be a good idea to buy.

Thank you

We have a little medport kit -- holds two insulin vials and there's a pocket that holds two tiny ice packs and then two slots for syringes and a pocket for more syringes. We take it on trips and when we reach or destination, I try to find a freezer to freeze the ice packs again or I just put the whole thing in mini-fridge or ice bucket.

Hello Liz,

are you shure about that??? My knowledge is, that insulin has to be stored in the fridge. When you take it out at room temperature, you can use it for about 28 days, afterwards it is not shure if its still working. The insulin you are just using in your pen should not get warmer than 35 degrees celsius, because otherwise again you cannot be shure its still working.
Thats also, what the notices in the insulin packages tell, so maybe you better ask your doctor again...

Sorry - I should have clarified myself with this one. The insulin that is in my pen needle stays at room temp because I use a new cartridge every 2 weeks. All of my extras are in the fridge. But again, according to my doc - insulin lasts quiet a while outside of the fridge. My insulin has been working fine too - my sugars are always within normal range, so I do know that my insulin is doing the job.
