Alyssa is old enough now, but I absolutely used to do the sleeping trick. When she was very little I would nurse her into a sleepy stupor and then I'd run the nebs with a pillow on top of the compressor to quiet the load machine a bit.

It got easier. I did switch everything I could to inhalers to minimize the neb times.

Sorry, no magical other answer for you. Sounds like you are doing the best you can.

Sleep was the key for us. I'd get up in the morning before DS walk up and did his CPT and nebs. The one after work was usually done when he was awake, but sometimes he'd fall asleep during treatments. And the one before bed was done also when he was sleeping or he'd fall asleep. The extra 2:30 a.m. one, when he was sick was also done while he slept.

He won't fall asleep with the vest or is extremely restless, so if he falls asleep prior to his last treatment of the night, I'll do cpt while he sleeps.

Sleep is ideal but isn't always workable. I would try and keep them busy with toys, tickling, etc. This was always a little tricky but it is do able. The hard part is when they are 1, 2, 3 and they do not want to sit still and some parents tend to get frustrated and just stop doing the treatments. As they get older having some special toys or movies that are only for treatment time were helpful for my boys. Good luck

Because Maddy is so tiny right now, it may be hard to distract her. I know sometimes DS would throw a fit when we did tobi and we'd sort of laugh nervously and say "well, at least screaming helps the medicine go deeper into the lungs".

A lot of times we would sing to ds. Make up silly songs while doing cpt to keep him entertained. One 4th of July at my inlaws we had a room full of teenaged girls signing old McDonald to keep DS occupied.

As he got a little older, we'd play the dreaded Barney, Elmo or Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs. Thank goodness he discovered spongebog by age 2.
