she is 4 mths old and has been on pregestimil and has always had problems with reflux. She takes an adult dose of prevacid. Everytime we would try an feed her she would keep pushing it out with her tongue and could only get her to eat like 2 oz every 3-4 hours. She also has thickened feeds because of reflux. Well I took her to the drs yesterday so they could check her out and they said everything looked fine so they said maybe she just doesnt like the taste of her formula so they put her on similac. Since then she has been coughing alot and still does not want to eat!! What is going on?? I am at the end of the rope with this because she always acts like she is starving!! She will drink water like crazy though!!
Any suggestions?????<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Thanks

When Sophia was about a two months old she started to refuse to take the bottle. She was taking about 10 ounces a day until she was four months old. We then needed to put in a feeding tube so she could gain weight. Everyone in my family was against it, but I was the end of my rope and she needed the nutrients to gain weight. Her doctors kept telling me it was reflux, related to cf, they didn't know why, etc. Although the doctors didn't think she had a milk allergy, they finally agreed to do a endocscopy. It showed irritated intestines or something like that, that indicated a probable allergy. We changed her formula to Nutramigen. It took about 3 weeks for her body to get used to the new formula. She started to finish her bottles and out went the feeding tube when she was 7 months old. We have had some eating issues I think as a result of trying to force feed her as an infant. She is now three and a half and I still need to feed her almost every bite.

I don't know if this is what is going on with your little one or not. It is strange that she will drink water like crazy though. I know this doesn't help you now, but soon she will be taking in other foods and within a few months she can get a lot of calories from that.

Sharon, mom to Sophia, 3 and Jack, 17 months both with cf

hi, im not suprised you wont drink pregestimil, it used to make me sick making up my daughters bottles when she was younger! the smell is discusting!
shes always been a really picky eater she still is and shes 9! the only thing my daughter would really eat when she was a baby is soft chocolate puddings ( a bit like mousse) i used to put her pancrease in them ( shes on creon now) we never had a weight problem with her when she was younger but shes so skinny now and hates eating, maybe your daughter will always be like that, i know how you feel but i dont really have much advice for you you just get on with it and get through it, mealtimes for me is still hell with chloe, your baby is 4 months old now, is she on solids?, and instead of giving her water why dont you give her baby juice, most have vitamins and nutrients in them then at least shes getting something.

My first born (without CF) was finally put on nutramigen as he refused to eat. I also had my doctor write a prescription for it and insurance paid for it. I had to pay a monthly co-pay of 10.00 for a month's supply (and we were also able to get the premixed liquid cans - not the powder!) .. Good luck ...

IF ITS SIMPLY A TASTE ISSUE, I HAVE A FRIEND THAT ALWAYS PUT STRAWBERRY QUIK IN HER BABYS FORMULA FROM BIRTH. IT ADDS CALORIES...BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT ANY PEDIATRICIAN WOULD THINK ABOUT ALL THE SUGAR.

Well keep in mind, pediatrician's very often are stuck in a train of thinking for "healthy children." So while all that sugar isn't the best thing in the world, the extra calories are perfect for CFers, but a regular doctor may forget that altogether.
