I caught a nasty cold from my family. This one is so bad that my family members even had to go on antibiotics-which they NEVER do.
So now I'm wondering what to do. I'm not any worse than my sister or husband was at this point with the cold. But its a gunky bronchial cough. I could ride it out, or go on abx. The thing is, we're shortly beginning ttc (already had a possible slip-up)...so I'm skeeved out by abx to be honest.
I've been down this road before, and I've been on abx while preg before.
But I'm just wondering-what do you all think of being on abx while ttc?
The whole point (imo) is to be healthy enough to not need them in the first place when considering pregnancy.
I've kept good pfts up for over a year now and held them. So part of me wants to ride this out a bit and keep up my own immune system. Part of me wants to 'take the pill' to help keep my #s high.

This is kind of funny because I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. I had a chest cold, and I thought about just trying to "ride it out", but in my experience, that doesn't usually work so well for me. Also, I didn't want to miss any work, so I went ahead and got on some Cipro and Doxycycline. We are also ttc, but I didn't get pregnant while I was on the meds, so I don't have to worry about the effects of the abx.
My advice is, look at your history: Have you "needed" abx in the past to get over colds, or do you do alright just "riding it out". Also, I know you are, but we all need a little reminder: just remember that your health is the biggest priority. I hope you feel better soon.

Well i bit the bullet and called the doc. I have a recent history of getting over colds very well without meds. But this cold has been such a doozy-if my healthy relatives ALL needed abx, I'm sure I will too.
They put me on Ceftin. Its a class B for preg. I'm not ttc this month, but there was a possible slip up...so I just want to be on the safe side.
My lung function has been so well this year, and I worked so hard for it that I want to hold on to it with a death grip.
