TTC and looking for advice

Hello! I have been reading on here for a few months now and i am fed up and venting but looking for advice now. I am 27 and was dx when i was 4 1/2. My PFTs are all over 100% and i am 5'1'' and about 100 lbs. I know that my weight could be better. My fiance and i have ben TTC for about 8 months now with no luck. (ANd just found out my little sister is pg on the first month of trying, happy but frustrated and like everyone around me is prego too) I am on Mucinex everyday for cf care and just started taking Fertile aide and CM feritle mucus stuff last month as well as my fiance taking the male fertile aide. And he is a trooper because it gives him indigestion. We also started using preseed last month. I feel like we are doing everything right but i am having no luck getting into see an OBYN because no one will take my insurance until i am prego. I am a real estate agent so have to pay for my own insurance throuhg the state that barely covers anything. We are at the point that we are going to pay out of pocket to see a obgyn and fertility dr. I had my Cf dr run my labs to check all of my hormones and found out that my progesterone is very very low. Like 0.3 and is supposed to be at 3-5. Has anyone else had this problem and solution if so? I have been doing the OPK's and it says i am ovulating at the right time every month. I feel like we are doing everything possible and still no baby. It makes me so sad every month when i start and it is hard to get throught those period days. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!! Maybe there is something that i am not doing right and am just hoping that it is just a quick fix. Hoping to have a obgyn appt for next week too. Thanks for any help or words of wisdom.

Good luck getting in to see an OB/GYN! I don't have any real words of wisdom, except to say that you are definitely not alone. My only advice is that I would really, really try to gain weight. Being on the lower end of the weight spectrum can definitely throw off your hormones and keep your body from producing the hormones it should be.

I would start with your weight too. I'd put my money on that. Try to gain 5-10 lbs. Even if you do 5 that may help. Look at your caloric intake and try to figure out what you'd have to add calorie wise each day to gain steadily. You may find that adding one 300 calorie protein shake and one 200 calorie snack every day will make you gain weight, which is very do able.

The obgyn is a good place to start. Tracking your cycles on mymonthlycycles or fertility friend is a must also. You may find from that or from talking with obgyn that even though your opk's are saying that you are ovulating, you still aren't timing sex correctly. We ttc'd for a year and on the 11th month my obgyn figured that for some reason the opks weren't reading my body right. They'd say I was ovulating but not until my acutal ovulation was almost over or had passed totally. So based on timing we missed it. Hubbys sperm count was normal so we began having sex every other day for the whole cycle and got pregnant that month. Its different for everyone though. Thats just an example that opks aren't always right.

I recommend the book taking charge of your fertility. That will teach you how to read your cycle without opks.

Its hard bc we decide in our minds that we want to get pregnant, which is such a big decision to come to in the first place, and think we're ready immediately. But rarely do we get pregnant right away so its a big test in patience. Throw in cf and its even more stressful. Remember that it takes most healthy women, of any age, 6 months to get pregnant.
First of all, I just want to ask if your husband has been checked at all by a urologist. Here's why: My husband and I started trying to conceive (on and off due to my lung exacerbations which required IV treatments) about 6 years ago. After 2 years (again, on and off) of trying on our own, we saw a fertility specialist. The first doctor whom we saw in 2007 had me go through every type of work up and all they did on my husband was a semen analysis. The results were "unexplained infertility" and we went through 3 rounds of IUI unsuccessfully. Before moving on to injectables, we decided to take a break. Fast forward to 2010...we decided to start trying on our own again, and when nothing was happening, we went to a new fertility doctor. She took one look at my husband's semen analysis results and said it was definitely "male factor infertility" and said that before proceeding with IUI or IVF, she was obligated to recommend that my husband see a urologist. It turned out that when my husband had a simple physical examination by a urologist, it was obvious that he had a varicocele (varicose vein in his testicle) so large that it was visible and this was causing his semen to be of poor quality. He had the varicocele repaired surgically and at his 3 month check up, his semen quality was above normal. I got pregnant two months later and am now 16 weeks along! I guess the moral here is always get a second opinion! Having CF, I always assumed if there was a problem conceiving, it would be because of me. While varicoceles are rare and we were lucky that we found a "fixable" cause for his low semen quality, it's always worth ruling out the simple things first. Don't always assume it's the woman's or the CF patient's body that is causing the problem. Best of luck to you!

I also am in the same boat as you..although my PFTs are lower. I am making an appointment with the OB/GYN to get my levels checked and also to ask about the preseed. We have been only trying for 2 months which I realize is NOTHING in the long scheme of things but I also want to get pregnant soon..while I'm really healthy and have enough time to have another child if we so choose. I'm worried also about how long it will take and if we will be successful at all. It's frustrating. I am unfamiliar with how mucinex helps..i'm assuming it just thins out the mucous?

Thanks everyone!!! It is nice to know that i am not the only one going through this when it seems like everyone around me is prego or just had a baby. Have to keep facebook to a minimum, it just makes me upset. trying to gain weight still. Went to see the OBGYN and she said that I actually had mucous covering my cervix and that it would be pretty hard for the sperm to get through. So she reffered us to the fertility clinic. They suggested IUI right off the bat. This was last month so this month I am taking hubbys "stuff" into get tested, we both need a bunch of blood work done, and then we can start. So with all of that and a pretty penny we get to do our first IUI next month in Oct. Fingers Crossed.
Mmurray0702~ Mucinex is supposed to thin the mucous but i started taking evening primrose oil too that i found on a fertility site. With 10 glasses of h20 a day it is also supposed to help thin it too. Just started that last month. Maybe it will work on the this second month and not need IUI. Still cant get over how pricey this fertility stuff is!!! I need to sell more houses!

What are others success rates with IUI???

Thanks!!!
