Tube Feeding Formulas

Axcan has been providing 5 cases of Scandishake a month to me so I can make a tube feeding for Parker that helps him gain weight. Four of the cases are above and beyond the one they offered in their comprehensive care program. I even wrote them a year ago thanking them for their compassion. Well they are not going to do it anymore. They will only send 2 cases total. I need to develop a new formula for tube feedings. Does anyone have a good idea or formula for a calorie rich tube feeding. Parker has gained a lot of weight with this method and I do not want to lose the progress. Has anyone tried the weight gain formulas at GNC? I am not sure of some of the ingredients so I am hesitant. Any ideas are appreciated.

Does your clinic nutrionist have any ideas, or your clinic social worker? The other nutrition companies probably have programs too. Sometimes people will donate unused cases to the hospital. We've done that.

The Oley Foundation is a good one. Here is a list of supplies that people have donated.

My kids have used osmolite, nutren and peptamin, but they all need prescriptions. We've used boost in a pinch, but it gets costly.

good luck

Won't your insurance cover the cost of enteral feeding?

We use Boost Kids Essentials 1.5 (one and a half the cals of the regular). WE get 90 cans per month (3 cases) without a cost to us -- insurance picks it up. We could get more, but that is all we need.

Parker's doctor or clinic should be able to write a script for it, since it is so important for his health. Good luck!!

BCBSLA lists in their policies that they do not pay for nutritional supplements. I really appreciate that. I have made a formula of Scandishakes and Vital Jr. through the assistance programs. I do not mind filling out paperwork or having to show I qualify for assistance; I do get aggrivated when people are not willing to try. Axcan has been great up till now. I can see their position, I just don't like it.
