Tummy Issues on Antibiotics

I am on Augmentin antibiotic (day 6 or 7-- kinda lost track). For the past 2 days I have had bowel issues. I pass gas and have to run to the bathroom for fear of making a mess. I am concerned about getting dehydrated due to the diarrhea. My sugars have been a bit crazy today due to the bathroom issues.

I don't even have stools anymore... just passing watery "stuff". Sorry for the honesty. Should I got in an get checked for dehydration?? If I do have to sit for hours in the ER waiting room and that won't be fun with these tummy issues.

I have been very gassy and blechy. No lady like in the least. I am also bleching up stomach acid.

I have been sipping water all day... kinda lost track how much I have drank-- at LEAST 8 glasses of water and 1/2 glass of orange juice.

I have never had this happen so violently on an antibiotic.

Thank you for your help!!

That sounds like a pretty common thing for Augmentin, my docs stopped prescribing it for me when I was little because it gave me so much trouble. Now when I'm on abx for more than a week I start having stomach issues. I don't know if you take a probiotic or not but this past round of ivs I started taking Culturel twice a day and it helped a ton! But it never hurts to put a call into the doc and see what they have to say, if you're worried about getting dehydrated Gatorade is always good and I think the Gatorade lite or diet or whatever they call it has less sugar if that's a concern for you. Other than that if my stomach gets too bad I end up resorting to Imodium just so I'm not running to the bathroom every ten minutes. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Unfortunately-I think that is pretty common for Augmentin.

I would definitely add a probiotic for sure-I take them daily and up them when I am sick and on antibioitics. It's the ONLY thing that helps my stomach and keeps the yeast under control.

Don't go sit in the ER for hrs. only to be told drink more water and go home, Augmentin was bad for me as well, I never used it again. I had those BM as well I call it my soup day, as all that is coming our is liquid, just keep putting the water back into yr. body as much as you can. But you shd also give the dr. a call tell them what you are experiencing and maybe they will switch you to sometinhg else? feel better. Pat-55/CF

With DS we'd have to push the yogurt and acidopholis (sp) milk and I'd up his enzymes. I think our pharmacist even did something with the dosage -- divided it up so it wasn't as harsh.

It may not help much, but try to eat the BRAT foods if you aren't already doing so.
Bananas, rice, apple sauce and tea/toast...I am never sure about that last one.
