I'm curious if any parents give the suppliment turmeric to their toddlers? Aidan will be 4 in 2 weeks, and I saw Wal-Mart has the suppliment at 500mg a capsule. Being as its an herbal supliment I'm not concerned bout the mg. I'm just wondering if other parents give it to their children and do you think it either helps them now, or are you oping it will help them long term?

Just because any given treatment is herbal doesn't mean it's completely benign. The dosage amount of anything we use is significant, especially when considering giving something to a young child.

The below article suggests a supplement dose about what you saw- for adults- and also gives a good overview of interactions with other meds and possible side effects.

Yea I do agree with the dosage amount. the bottle does not have a reccomendation dosage for children. I will ask his doc about it, also that is why I did post the question to ask if anyone does give to their children as I stated originaly.

The interaction it states with other drugs I'm not concerned about because Aidan doesn't take Plavix, Advil, or Aleve. He doesnt have diabetes, or have low blood pressure, or cholestrol issues. I do understand to never start something new with our children with out consulting first.

Hi Elizabeth,

I was taking Turmeric for the last 2 or 3 years until recently. I had read studies that Turmeric was beneficial to CFer's and I thought the CF Foundation was doing a study at one point -- but I no longer see it listed anywhere.

My doctor recently asked me stop taking it. She said there is some concern according to a recent study that high doses of Turmeric may cause cancer in the long term. She told me to just sprinkle it on my food. So until I know differently, I am not taking the high dosage that I was taking that is ususally recommended for Adults. For now, I've cut it out entirely.
