Update on Emma

Emma was having alot of diarrhea. I knew it was not CF related because she was not having the usual signs (it was not smelly, her tummy was not bothering her, etc.) I called the dietician at the CF clinic and we both thought it might be due to teething.

The diarrhea seemed to be getting better, but then worse again. We had an appointment at the CF clinic on the 21st to have her Infant PFT. I decided to bring a diaper along. The Dr and the dietician checked out the sample. lol! And they decided that we needed to add additional powder to her formula, because due to the volume of formula she was drinking (35-45 oz a day) she may be drinking too much water.... which may make her stools watery.

But just to be safe, they would run some tests on it too. Guess what... to everyone's suprise her stool came back with C. Diff. So we are treating it with Flagyl.

Emma has always been really good about taking her medicine. I squirt it in her mouth and she swallows it. But this stuff must taste really bad. She has learned how to spit it out. Any suggestions on how to get a 5 month old to take medicine?

Emma seems to be feeling fine. She is not cranky. She is always such a happy baby. It really makes things so much easier. How can I be sad when she is smiling and giggling?

I am waiting for a call back from the nurse today about Emma's lung culture. I spoke with her on Thursday, but it was not done yet. She did say that it looked like a little something might be growing. She said it may be staph again.

UGH c-diff at her age, poor thing. Has she been on a lot of antibiotics already that it caused the c-diff? I'm glad you've got it under control. The only med suggestion I can make is to squirt it WAY back into her cheek and massage from the outside. We've also found that a little at a time goes down better than all one big squirt.

I recall a fountain of septra when DS was about that age. Bleah! We did best giving him his med when he was sleeping, otherwise if he knew it was coming, he'd throw a fit.

I know some pharmacies have flavorings that can be added to the meds... When we first started giving DS zantac we used then nipple of a baby bottle and added a teeny bit of juice to the medication to get him to take it.

No, she has only been on antibiotics once (about 5 weeks ago). That is why we all were suprised.

This is what I was doing but she seems to be letting it all collect in the back of her throat and then spilling it up when I think she has swallowed it all. She is a smart one!

They added cherry to hers, but it is not masking the flavor enough.
