update on me

Things are still the same really.. but i'm home again now. My doctor had a few tests back today. The bloodtests, that showed EBV for the first time. Needs to be below 2 like it has been till now but was 9 now.. So i have to go back every 2 weeks now to let that get checked. I didn't have EBV before my transplant so we have to see what this will do.
Yesterday, my last day of tests they did a bronchoscopie.. Everything looked ok, that's what the doctor said who had done it (i don't know him). So i was happy, he said you couldn't even see the lines where they stitched it, if you didn't know it was there, he said. It was a little sore after but that isn't unusual because of the biopties they did.
Now today my doc called with the first results of the bronch like he said he would.. And guess what.. Only 1 of the 5 samples contained lung tissue! The others were with tissue from outside my lung... So they punctured it 4 times.. They didn't see it in the x-ray they took after the procedure.. It's probably cause by the fact that the lungs i got are a little weak.. (that's probably why my pft's didn't go up anymore too, usually just below 50%). Luckely the lung didn't collapse, but i just have to take it easy now and see i don't get short of breath or something like that. It's a little bubbly sometimes, i can feel it move.. But it's ok, so i hope it heals soon. The one bioptie that had worked showed that all was ok, my doc prefered to have more so it would be more reliable.. But i guess we have to do with what we got now. At least no rejection in that sample.

Can they tell the lungs are weak before hand? If so how much and why? I guess no rejection is good. I am sorry to hear you have problems, but I hope it doesnt become an ongoing thing. HUGS!

Thanks Melissa

They didn't know this before the transplant. Don't know if they'd even have used them?.. My doctor said this happens sometimes, where they don't know anything is wrong till after everything is done and even gone very well like with me..
No rejection is good, you are right, and i'm very happy about that.

Love and thank you again for your kind message

I'm glad you're back, and I hope those lungs can get a cahance to heal up a little better. It is reallly good news that there is no rejection so far. By all means, take it easy! We are all glad you are in our lives, so please. take it easy, relax, and know that we care. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

thanks for updating, marjolein! i'm glad that you are home but i am sorry to hear about things being not quite right. i can't believe they punctured your lung four times! that is insane. i had no idea there would be such a thin layer of tissue that they would sample and go all the way through. yikes! keep us posted, i'm thinking good thoughts for you--

Marjolein (or anyone?) is EPV the same thing as CMV?

I'm sorry to hear you've had a rough old go of things, and really hope that things pick up! I hope that very soon, your lungs will be much better, stronger and that your lung function will be up and beyond! Wishing you well, xx
