Update on my mom's shortness of breath

She's been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. Sometime in the next few weeks they are going to be doing a right heart catheterization and possibly an open lung biopsy. I am so scared for her, and she is so scared. She is on oxygen around the clock and I just feel so bad and wish I could make it all go away.

They aren't really sure what has caused it, she stopped smoking over 20 years ago, and the doctors think her smoking that long ago isn't related to what is going on right now.

I don't know what to do for her or what to say when she starts crying. Should I just hug her? What do I say??? My heart aches for her...

Hug her, tell her that you love her & remind her to take one day at a time!

I have to remind my Mom of this too

Julie,

I'm sorry to hear of your Mother having pulmonary hypertension. I don't get over here to OT a whole lot & just saw this.

Mel has good advice, just be there to listen and give her support and love.

I will add your mom to my prayer list. Thank you for updating us.

Sorry to hear about your mother's situation.

I had just logged out last night when I saw this...

anyway, at least her illness has been discovered.

I do hope that they can treat it, though I see that they have to go the hard way to take samples for further testing.

IMO, there may be a slight relationship to smoking and her lungs, in the fact that the smoking will do some damage. However, I cannot say and probably would agree that her stopping to smoke 20 years ago doesn't have any direct relationship to what caused it.

And, your own suggestion to always be there for her would be the best thing to do, since its currently the only thing in your own power to do

I hope you hold up well, staying as little stressed as possible...take care and I'll say some prayers for you, your mom and your family..
