Vacationing

Does anyone have suggestions for places to vacation that accommodate the children with special healthcare needs?? Our family is in desperate need of a vacation but we are scared to go with Marahsyn's condition without having knowledge of what we are up against first.

Thanks

We have a traveled(not a ton) but have flown twice with our daughter with CF, once when she was 1 year old and again recently when she was four. What helped us alot was to stay in a time-share that had a kitchen; good for boiling nebs, putting meds in the fridge, making breakfast and lunch(cuts down on cost of vacation) plus you can keep the foods/drinks your children like in there. What specifically are your concerns with traveling/vacationing? It's alot of organization/ writing stuff down so you don't forget anything. We 've also gone away for long drives stayed at hotels brought the VEST and all Maggie's nebs(used disposable stuff)..When there is a will there is a way!

Last year I asked the same question twice. Here's a link to the replies I got. Of course my kids are older than yours, but it might help.

I look for places that are known for being clean (Hilton Hotels are my personal fave) and we always get a mini-fridge. A kitchenette would be good for boiling nebs. Also, if you are going far from home, you can find the closest CF Center ahead of time so you are prepared for an emergency. I always make a list of supplies to bring and check it twice and I also overpack supplies/meds. Otherwise we just go where we want to go and have fun while we are there! Don't be afraid to go on vacation, especially if you need one. For the first one, you might want to stick close to home for comfort and call it a "test run" of course then you will have to go on a "real" vacation too, lol.
