Vest settings

Just curious what other have their vests set on. Danny's is on 10 and 5 for 20 min 2x day. His RT told us that we should start at 10, then throughout the treatment go up to 14. Hill-Rom says the script says to keep it at 10 the whole time. We try to vary it but he seems to be pretty uncomfortable at 14. He does 10 fine and 12 he does okay but 14 seems too much. He's 2, 33 lbs, and has the full vest. For those of you that can express your thoughts better than he can, can you feel more gunk rattling around on a higher setting?

Reece is 4 & we put it on 12Hz 6 is the pressure for 20~30 min. 2~3x a day. Our doc. said to keep it anywhere from 10~12 Hz & 4~6 as the pressure.

My settings vary. The Therapy supervisor at my clinic & I discovered that the "normal" settings for the vest were causing a problem for my with airway closures. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to airway problems connecting to my muscular setup in my back. For me we have realized that I have to play it by ear. When I can tolerate the higher settings I use them & If I cant then I stick with the lower settings. Its much easier when the patient can express themselves tho! My point is that you want to be sure that he will tolerate it by making it as effective yet comfortable as possible.

Sean is on 10Hz for the first ten minutes then on 14Hz for the next ten minutes. I noticed the other day that he turned down the pressure setting to 25. I can't for the life of me remember what the respiratory therapist told originally set it at. I think it was 45-55.

My 3 year old uses the vest settings at 12hz with pressure at 5 for 30 minutes. These are the settings the vest nurse said to use when she brought it 8 months ago. He's 38" tall so the vest covers everything from shoulders to waist. At these settings, it seems like quite a good rattling without making him puke; I'd worry about going any higher because he had bad reflux as a baby and still gets horrible hiccoughs fairly easily..

Sarah just starting using the new vest from RespriTech. It is programmed to cycle from 6hz to 15hz throughout the 30 minute treatment. And we usually run it at 80 or 90 percent power. And we do it twice a day.

Nicole,

My 5 year old son does the vest on 10--- 4 and for 20 minutes. He does it in the morning and before bedtime and we do 2 breathing treatments in between with hand percussion. We do it straight thru for the 20 minutes. He weighs 38 pounds.
