I hope that you will educate yourself on choices beyong HillRom. Respirtech is just as helpful with insurances, but since they're brand new, not as many people have great stories to tell because of their time on the market.

I agree with sakasuka. I also have some info on my blog page if you want to check it out.

Our insurance denied the claim the first time around but Hill Rom gathered more information and filed the appeal and just recently won. Cigna paid them over $11,000. I don't have to pay a cent!

I also agree with sakaska about checking out other companies. I really struggled with wanting to make the best decision since it is so expensive. We were interested in the Respirtech machine but decided to go with Hill Rom just because there were so many people out there saying good things about them. And, I cannot deny, they handled our case very well. I didn't have to do anything beyond the initial intake paperwork, which wasn't much and the rep brought that to my house!

Good luck!

I am trying to get one for my 9 year old son. We have one on trial from The Vest - Hill Rom. I think we've had it since April or so - our insurance keeps denying it. I'm waiting for them to call me and ask "What's next?" We can't afford to pay for one - but I would sure hate to lose it now. I don't think insurance understands the PREVENTATIVE word that goes with CF. I guess if my son would have been hospitalized alot - maybe then they would pay - who knows?? So now we just wait and see!</end quote></div>

This is us exactly...and I mean exactly. Got it in April and still fighting with insurance.

Hey All,

I feel real bad that all of you are having such a problem getting the vest. I have Highmark Blue Shield. They paid everything 100%. No ifs, ands, or buts. Trust me, though, it's worth fighting for. You won't regret it!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

We just got our Blue Cross Blue Shield statement of benefits regarding the vest from Hill-Rom. Total amount was $16,300 and change, then the provider gave a $4000+ discount, insurance paid $11,000+ and looks like our total amount due is $530. We have yet to get a final bill from the provider yet.

Originally, we'd thought we'd be responsible for 20% of the cost of durable medical equipment with a cap of $6000. But looks like we did fairly well. We'll probably end up dipping into savings, but when we'd thought we'd be responsible for a few thousand, we started putting money away. And in any event, I believe Hill-Rom has a payment plan option.

Great decision Shannon. I think this is a good move for your future health. Preventation is key. Good luck with your decision. I am on my second Hill-Rom. Actually third because I broke one while traveling which they replaced no problem. Next time around (meaning next time my insurance changes) I will try Respirtech though since I would like to try the wavelengths in this product that are supposedly more beneficial than Hill-Rom. Either way though, Hill-Rom guarantees their products for life so I will be able to have a working Vest from them for the rest of my life. Good luck 'working' your 3 insurances. I'm sure you'll have success getting coverages especially if one of them is BCBS / United or Aetna.

So my question is - for those who have had both HillRom and Respirtech - which do you like better? I have read some of Amy's blogs about the vest - Do I understand that Dr Warwick recommends the Respirtech one better? Since my insurance is still denying the vest I want to make sure and get the best one if I'm able to. I would hate to switch after HillRom has been fighting insurance so long though. Just curious as to what some other people feel about which one is more productive. My son doesn't really cough anything up yet.
