I was just wondering who has used this and if it has worked well with absorption. My daughter's dietician told me that it doesn't work very well. Has this been your experience?

Our daughter is older now but when she was diagnosed (6 mos) until around 4 years old, we used Viokase and it worked really well. No problems at all except for the burning around her mouth when we didn't wipe the excess right away. I'm sure your dietician told you about that.

We don't use it. I was told that its a pretty outdated type of enzyme. It is not enterically coated, so it starts to work in the mouth (like Amysmom says -- thus the burning). The beads hold together until the gut and work there where you need it. Viokase powder is a good choice for tube feeds though, especially through the night, because you can mix it right into the formula so that they get some throughout the whole night.

I hope this helps.
