Vitamin Drops

Just went to the pharmacy and they're unable to get ADEKs vitamin drops from their wholesaler. Checked the scandiapharm website and they're on backordered. This happened a couple of years ago and I had to go thru the dreaded CF services pharmacy -- kept getting overbilled, they were going to start charging for shipping... Apparently there are ADEKs tablets, but DS is only 3 and I don't think he can start using those until he's 4.

What do other people use for vitamins and are you able to get them from your local pharmacy. We were told NOT to use Poly-vi-Sol 'cuz it had iron in it and didn't have zinc or enough of the vitamins cfers need.

Have you ever looked into the SourceCF vitamins? I linked to the pediatric drops. My fiance switched from ADEKs to the SourceCF softgels almost two years ago.

I've never looked into them before 'cuz I thought they were only available via the CF Pharmacy, but that's a thought. Thanks!

Maybe Canada is different, but I do not pay for any of my meds whatsoever here in Manitoba. I can easily get my ADEKs from my pharmacy without a problem.

The problem with Adeks vitamin drops is that people who've had gastric bypass surgery for obesity have been told to use these. After their surgery they have problems absorbing fat soluble vitamins. So they're buying up all the ADEKs they can get their hands on and the manufacturer doesn't have any available. The CF services pharmacy only sells to people with CF who have a prescription from their doctor and have managed to stockpile some. This happened to us a year or so ago.

Try another pharmacy. My old pharmacy said they couldn't order them and if they could, it would take a week to get them in. We moved a little over a year ago and out of sheer luck, I asked my local super market's pharmacy if they could order them. He told me no problem. I had them the next day. Crazy, but true. Good luck...

My pharmacy like most dont carry them & acutally the pharmacist had never hard of them so he looked them up in their handy, dandy book of meds & presto there it was. The were ordered for me & I had them the next day.

Problem is that even the manufacturer doesn't have any -- they're on back order. Only reason CF Services pharmacy has any available is because they've stockpiled some. Hopefully we'll get this resolved soon, 'cuz I'm out tomorrow and the Poly-vi-sol doesn't have as much ADEK or zinc. CF Pharmacy as usual is blowing me off. Claimed they've mailed them, now they say they didn't because I don't have a prescription...Too Annoying. Liza
