Hey everyone!
I know this isn't the right spot, but we need opinions.
I've posted before about my weight. I'm underweight and came into the hospital because my lung function decreased.
Right now, we are extremely upset.
My nutritionist and doctor came to my hospital room and proceeded to tell me that they think I need a gtube, so they think without it I can't gain weight.

This team, I have always thought they think I can't do it. The first spot with them they were already talking about the tube.

My mother is upset because they told me all this without her there, then didn't even call her at work.

Is it wrog of us to want a second opinion? I've gained 3 pounds in a month and a week.. Isn't that good? Lol

Anyways, sorry for spelling, I'm on the iPhone.

What do you guys think?
Questions welcome !

If something doesn't sit right, you should ALWAYS get a second opinion. For someone who is having trouble gaining weight, gaining 3 pounds in a little over a month sounds pretty good to me -- but I'm no expert. Are you dangerously underweight and need this immediately? -- I think that would be my question.

Getting a feeding tube is not an easy decision process. You should definitely get a second opinion, as a patient it is your right to make your decision with as much information as you can have. But I'll tell you that most of the CF docs and nutritionists are really pushing for tubes for their underweight CFers. Research is proving that the more a CFer weighs, the better the lung funcion seems to be. So the thought is long term success w/CF requires a healthy weight.

My daughter had a tube placed in November. It was a heart-wrenching decision for us and the process was noot a bed of roses. But, our care team really believe that this is important for her long term lung health and I never want to be at a point where I wish we would have done more to help her.

You say that your mom is upset that they didn't call her. Does that mean you are a minor? If so, feel free to send your mom my way, and I'll be happy to talk to her about how we made our decision.

Best of luck making this decision. I do know how hard it is. But I also know that with all the fears of the tube and what it will mean to your life, on the whole it really isn't THAT bad.
