Weezie

Okay, Heres the deal, I have been on iv abx for 4 weeks this was soooo not expected beings that "last time" I only had to be on them for 1 week.

So, I was weezie and pft's were 2.7 before hospital stay. Discharge day pfts were 3.1 (my baseline is 3.3). Well here I am after 4 weeks of iv therapy, predisone, tobi, hts, advair, spiriva, zithromax, proair (as needed). I still have the flippin weeze and it's like I hit a wall with pfts and I can only get to 2.9. Is this normal cf weezie stuff? Are my lungs scarred? I really wonder what the deal is? I am going off of iv therapy on Friday and then I am supposed to go back in a couple of weeks to blow pfts. If they go back down I go back in hospital. I'm just not sure what the deal is?

Sounds like the meds have begun working to the point that the mucus that was thick and coating everything has started to thin out and is now just sort of stringy in there. I like to think of the "pre-abx" mucus as a big spiderweb in the doorway. The antibiotics are like me walking through the spiderweb. Some of it gets pushed out of the way by my body, but some of it might still be clinging to the door frame and is wafting in the breeze. It's going to take a bit more effort now for the meds to finish clearing away those wispy spider webs.

Are you familiar with the technique of huff coughing? That's a good way to clear out the rest of the loose gunk in there.

Try not to worry! You're on the right path! Wheezes just mean that air is able to move through those airways with less resistance than before.

That's exactly what I thought too. I was like, Oh no, where is she?!

Erin, just keep up your treatments, cough that stuff out as best you can. Keep at it and you should improve. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
