Hi,
Im Aileen and I'm 17 years old and was just curious as to how you guys deal with gaining weight etc
I'm finding it so hard at the moment to keep it up and doctors have mentioned peg feeding to me in the past but at the time I didn't like the idea of it. Now I'm beginning to think that it could really help me and I just want to do the best I can right now so maybe it would be a good idea at some stage. I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 58kg at my best...it can go lower than that very quickly! I'm on calshake which is one of the high calorie milkshakes.

I hope it's not rude to ask but what weight are you? and do you find it hard to maintain your weight?
I just want to get to a healthy weight that way when I do get sick I don't lose a lot! Thanks :)

I struggled with weight my whole life and I was always about 10 kg lighter than I wanted and should have been. I used to say, jokingly, that maybe when I reached 30 years of age I would finally start putting on the weight like every other woman. Suddenly, at 29, I gained 8 kg! No kidding. This happened last year. I had an appointment with a nutritionist who calculated that for my height, condition and physical activity, I should eat 2100 cal per day if I want to maintain weight, or more than that if I want to gain. I stuck to that for a few days and I started to put on the kilos. For the first few months I had the help of Nutri Drinks and the shakes you are also drinking. In about a month I weighed 5 kg more, and now, 7 months later, I'm the weight I had always dreamed of - 52 kg, 5'3" tall. I used to weigh 44 kg on a good day. I don't need the nutri drinks anymore and I notice that even when I don't reach the 2100 cal for a few days in a row, I am not losing the weight. That's why I think this could be because I am turning 30 next month and my metabolism is changing. It also really helps that I don't usually get infections and my appetite is good.

Hi!
My name is Alex & I'm 24 years old. Lately, I haven't had a real problem with gaining & keeping on weight (although my doctor & nutritionist still want me to gain a bit more weight...) but when I was younger I had a g-tube and I'm not going to lie, it took so much pressure off me to eat (eating had become a chore and not something I enjoyed doing anymore, which was a giant bummer), so from that stand point, I would recommend a g-tube (I got mine out at 15, so I don't have one now, but again, it was a real life saver for me at the time). Lately, I've been a bit lazy  which has helped me keep on weight, but I also eat a lot of candy bars (Snickers & Butterfingers are my favorites) as well as chocolate shakes. I also cook dinner and tend to eat two dinners! However, I didn't always eat so much, so I understand the concern without gaining weight. Currently I'm 4'11" and around 103 lbs; I'm in the 'okay' range of weight, but my nutritionist is definitely encouraging me to gain more weight.

That's great that you drink the calshakes! I've never been a big fan of them, despite my love for McDonald's shakes! I do drink the ensure juice mixed with other juice though, which isn't awful.

Unfortunately, I don't have any real suggestions as to how to gain weight, other than the 'regular' suggestions to always add butter to food, cheese, cream cheeses, eat a lot and I've always been encourage to have the 'empty' calories.

But, feel free to message me about anything I eat or g-tubes in general!

Good luck :)

Hi!
I'm 31, 5'4" and a proud 130lbs! I was having a hard time losing weight, especially when I get sick. I started on zenpep and got on the live 2 thrive program where they send me free aquadeks multi and a case of high calorie boost. I have a boost for breakfast usually eggs, ham, normal stuff... for dinner usually 3 times a wk I make some kind of pizza with all kinds of toppings. I get dough frozen or deli made & sauce, mixed cheese (3-5 blend), stretch out the crust extra thin, so less wheat and processed stuff, then bake it with lots of meats and cheeses, then cut up fresh green peppers, pineapples, olives, tomatoes..... piled on top of the baked pizza, they are still crispy and full of nutrients when not baked also. I also add sour cream to everything with eggs... there are some really good healthy ideas on http://cfnaturalhealth.weebly.com/....

I also found out when I got a gen. practitioner that I had thyroid disease. I was able to maintain my weight a lot easier after I went on meds. for it. cf team doesn't always pick up on normal issues.

I lost a few pounds recently during a round of IV's and am definitely underweight for a dude. 5'7" and 122 Lbs. I gained a few back in the last month or so. I have a tough time b/c I'm trying to eat healthy too, and I'm vegetarian. But big meals, add extra oil when cooking, think calorically for choosing meals, eat snacks, especially before bed, and I recently started drink Boost plus. Which is quick calories and pretty tasty.
