Grayson is now 15 months and is doing well, however, she started walking a few months ago and now she has lost weight. She is at 19lbs now and they are not to concerned unless she drops on the next visit. She is very active and is not a good eater. She loves YoBaby, and will only take her enezymes with ranch dressing. She is on a high calorie drink (Boost), which she drinks about 3 a day of. She does have a g-tube which we haven't had to use other then for meds for a few months but we may have to start using it to give her more calories. How do you get them to slow down to eat? She is very picky and likes things like ranch dressing, pickles and tartar sauce so maybe something slightly salty? Any suggestions? She has been doing so well we don't want her to drop anymore weight.

She is at such a tough age to get her to eat. They are all go-go-go at this age and its a conundrum for most parents of toddlers at this point.

I might try lots of dips -- chips and cooked veggies can go in ranch dressing. They love to dip at that age. The YoBaby is awesome for her .... have you tried it, its soooo delicious!!! Maybe try and get her to sit in a high chair 6 times a day for a small meal or snack and try to avoid grazing.

When Alyssa was that age, she LOVED soup. I would mix it with heavy cream and butter and parmasean cheese to add lots of calories. Since you can't force her to eat a lot, you need to make sure that every bite counts, kwim?

We have this issue with Luke. He is just so active and he is a typical toddler--he eats what he wants to eat and that is all. We do all of the tricks to add calories to his food, but when he is only going to eat 3 bites, it is not that helpful. We have had to use his feeding tube. We had gotten to the point where we were not needing it as much, but we had the same issue--he did not lose but he only gained 2 or 3 ounces I think. So we went back to his night time feeds. It is our goal that he has 4 pediasure a day, so if he is not drinking by mouth, we will bolous him and then he usually gets 1 and a half to two through the night, depending on how he has done throughout the day with eating. I was hoping to get rid of the feeding tube, but he needs it and that is what it is there for. We have already seen a big difference--he has gained almost 2 lbs. I still offer as much food as I can all day--I give him his favorites, even though it feels like he eats the same things everyday. I try to offer some new stuff, but I have the tried and true ready just in case!
It sounds like she drinks the boost pretty well, have you ever added anything to that? They told us at clinic that we could add syrup--chocolate or strawberry stuff like Nesquick--to Luke's pediasure. It adds calories without adding volume. We make his mac-n-cheese with heavy cream instead of milk and a scramble his eggs with heavy cream . They also told us that we could mix heavy cream with whole milk, but he didn't like it. We do the dips, too--ranch for veggies, crackers and chips, syrup to dip french toast sticks, caramel or chocolate dip for fruit, etc. We will butter or put cream cheese on his crackers. I check the labels of all crackers, chips, cookies and stuff like that to find out which one has the most calories and buy those. I am sure you probably have tried most of this stuff! I feel like we have tried everything. Toddlers are just hard, I think. They are too busy to eat and they are very stubborn about what they like and don't like. I am hoping that we will be able to get rid of the feeding tube at some point, but with winter coming, I know now is the time to really get him "bulked up".
I hope she has a great weight gain at her next appointment!

I suggest using the gtube to atleast keep her maintaining. The gtube is a good thing don't fight it so much.

As for getting her to eat - I always make sure Olivia(no cf but failure to thrive) gets buckled in and I give her time to eat. She loves fruits and veggies and its hard to get her to eat more fattening things. The key is to get the best bang in a few bites. Yobaby is a great start - try adding infant cereal to it for some extra. Also try avacado a good fattening food an taste good mixed with yobaby, or potatos, or banana, or applesauce. Meat is another good way -whatever kind she likes give it too her.
