Hi

I am currently taking Advair and Flonase. After each use, I like to clean the tip of the flonase and the mouth part on the Advair with alcohol. Since this is plastic, I am concerned that using alcohol will help to degrade the plastic and by putting this into the sinuses and mouth that may not be a good choice. What do you use? I think soap and water probably would be the safest but using alcohol is much faster. THe plastic seems fine to me but I think this may not be wise. I am only using them after twenty four hours so the residue of alcohol is long gone. What are your thougths? What do you use?
Thank you

PS. There is a generic version of Flonase so we all can save money for those who take it.

I have used the alcohol pads/wipes. I dont think its a problem since you would probably use the prescription up before the alcohol ate away at it enough. I didnt use it on the advair tho only flonase. The booger thing grosses me out & I worried that somehow the mositure of the alcohol would cake up the advair. Just my personal worries I think.

I don't have a flonase handy at the moment but am thinking the tip is blue. If so, then if the color of the plastic does not come away on the alcohol wipe, then it seems to me that would be an adequate indication that no harm is being done to the plastic.

PS to Risa - I saw in yesterday's or today's newspaper (Washington Post) that the maker of Flonase is filing a lawsuit to prevent the approval of the generic version.

Amy,
Flonase does not have alcohol. I am talking about cleaning the tip. If you have germs in your sinuses then you do not want to reinfect yourself with your own germs day after day. One germ comes down a notch and another one might come up so you want to keep the tip clean. IF you use alcohol after each use and do not reuse it for a day then the alcohol is dry. I was wondering if there is better way to keep the plastic applicator clean. I am sure i can use vinager(but that takes more time)

Last week, I noticed a little tiny blood when I blew my nose. So that is the flonase? Good luck to the makers of flonase in their law suit. Greedy drug companies.
