Less than 40 is considered negative, 40-59 borderline and warrants further testing, 60 or above is positive. However, although rare, there have been MANY cases of people with borderline sweat tests and even negative sweat tests who have 2 genes and therefore do have CF. Generally speaking though a value in the teens or lower is almost always considered negative. (Assuming of course the child was old enough, there was enough sweat collected, and the test was performed at an accredited cf lab.)
