CFRD me Cystic Fibrosis Related DIABETES.
In fact 30% of people with CF have a unique type of diabetes Type 1. I in fact was diagnosed in 1996 and I am on insulyn shots 3 to 4 times a day. But It Doesn't Stop Me. Just another challenge....

FEV1 is the volume exhaled during the first second of a forced expiratory maneuver started from the level of total lung capacity.
FEV1 is by far the most frequently used index for assessing airway obstruction, bronchoconstriction or bronchodilatation; FEV1 expressed as a percentage of the VC is the standard index for assessing and quantifying airflow limitation. In adults, but not in children and adolescents , FEV1%VC declines with age.

That's the scientific definition. If your like me and saying what the heck is that, I understand. This is what most CF doctors and pulmonologists look at to see if our lungs are being damaged by CF. For more information you can go to this website:

Have a great day,

FVC: Forced Vital Capacity - This is the total amount of air that you can forcibly blow out after full inspiration, measured in liters.
FEV1: Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 Second - This is the amount of air that you can forcibly blow out in one second, measured in liters. Along with FVC it is considered one of the primary indicators of lung function.
FEV1 / FVC - This is the ratio of FEV 1 and FVC, which showing the amount of the FVC that can be expelled in one second. In healthy adults this should be approximately 80%.

I like this explanation more for the FEV1..
Sounds more 'human'.
