Ok I know everyone is different so in this case maybe alot of different anwsers could be good. I went to clinic today and back in aug my FEV1 was 92% ( higest in years). Then it went to around 87% and has stayed there, I have been on antibodics pretty much straigh since Sept of last year, including a 2 week dose of IV. I went in 3 weeks ago and it was 86%. Today I went in and it was 82% this is post inhaler. It keeps going down and I have been on meds but it isnt working so they are running another culture and if it comes back same stuff I am requesting IV's. But the lasy I saw today told me that evryone drops, and Im like yea I know but not that much in only like 8 months. She said everyone loses function over a year, even healthy people. I have heard that you lose like 1-2% a year, is that right? I dont get it b/c I can look back at records from when I was 15 and my numbers were 85%. She was like its normal to drop and I know it would be in my mind if I didnt have a cough and green sputum that doesnt want to go away after 8 months of antibodics. So I wanted to see what you all thought about the decine rate of FEV1. Also she said they dont watch 25-75 much but I always did and it was donw like 15,so I was like whooooooo hold up!

i don't think it's normal to drop that much in 8 months and i think you are right to follow your instincts to be agressive with treatment to try to get your numbers back up. just my opinion... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I've always been under the impression that it was 2-3% a year. However, I know I myself have had years where I lost significant ground and other years when I lost no function. In fact I would say I tended to slide and then hold and then slide and then hold. But if you were to take my age and then did the math it would appear that I lost between 2-3% a year. But some years I lost maybe 8% and other years I wouldn't lose any.

I just don't think this is a science and it is a progressive disease. which I know we're always saying around here but I think we say that but what people tend to want to hear is "a progressive disease that we can stop in it's tracks if we are taking antibiodics and doing everything we're supposed to"....and that's just NOT the definition of this disease. That's why it SUCKS so much.

What a great topic, i'm looking forward to hear what everyone has to say. I never actually thought about this, i guess when Olivia is old enough to do lung functions the same thoughts will be going through my head.
