What to do instead??

So my doc informed me that I just need to wait 3 days after IVs to start ttcing again. Yay!!! My question now is this.

In the past, I knew that if my lungs felt irritated or I was unusually congested, I would use TOBI for a day or two and that would be that. But being that we're ttc, I now cannot use that regimen when there's a chance I may be pregnant. For those TOBI (or similar) users out there, what alternative ttc-compatible methods of congestion control have you used that you've found effective?

Wait? You're using IVs without fully exhausting the benefits of home nebulization???

You are seriously messing with resistance by using Tobi here and there. You should either commit to it for a full course of at least 14 days (although PI says for 28 days) or not use it at all. Antibiotics don't work instantaneously and for this reason all abx PI leaflets always says to continue the course to completion even if you feel better after 3-5 days on the med because 3-5 days is not long enough to kill the masses therefore they just come back with vengence.

In terms of what to do instead of Tobi while TTC. Most of us that take Tobi continued while TTC. Very few discontinued it while pregnant since it is not considered dangerous by the majority of the cf world. That being said, there are risks to all treatments and the risks/benefits need to be weighed. Many of us didn't take Tobi during the first trimester which is when risks are suspected to be the highest.

Good luck!

Thanks LouLou for your reply.

I of course use home nebulization but have been almost exclusively using saline or hypertonic saline in maintaining my health. For the last 2 years now, I rarely had to use antibiotics, either inhaled or otherwise. I was put on IVs to do the yearly tune-up, for whatever had built up in my lungs.

Regarding Tobi, I had many times attempted to follow the prescribed regimen but find that I can't. It dries me out so much and I get such cough attacks, I can't stand it. AND I completely lose my voice, which is so aggravating! Believe, me, if all I did was get laryngitis because of it, I would still do it. But that's not the case, unfortunately.

It was my doctor who had recommended the alternate Tobi regimen for me if I felt that worked. Btw, when I use it that way, I typically double the dose. I don't follow a very shortened version of the Tobi regimen; it's just a tailored response to bacterial exacerbation.
