Wheezy cough

Archie has a wheezy cough at the moment. He is getting 3 new teeth
and is allergic to egg, cows milk and peanuts (not severe but still
allergic). His cough does not sound wet, just raspy/wheezy. He has
had bronchiolitis in the past but that's it for colds/flu etc. Do
you think this could be another round of bronchiolitis or does it
sound more allergy based? I have recently been challenging him on
some dairy and this is when the wheeze/runny nose symptoms began.
My gut tends to think it is related to teeth and allergies but
would love you expert opinions. Does anyone else's pride and joy
get wheezy when they get a cold or have allergies?<br>

Could it be asthma? My husband has asthma that is usually brought on by allergies. Does doing an albuterol treatment seem to help the wheezing at all?

I get really really awful wheezing when exposed to allergens.

You didn't mention environmental allergens (dust mites, radweed, etc). Have you had him tested for that?

As soon as I got my allergies under control (allergen avoidence, encasings in my bedroom, air purifier, and anti-histamine), i had wheezing all the time that made my CF much much worse.

It's so hard to tell, I know! Trying to see what's going on between, allergies, cold, ect. This sounds like allergies-if its anything like what I get. I get that wheezing, and runny nose and swollen glands all in the fall.

DS would get a little wheezy his first year. Our doctor told us to increase beatings and I would increase his baths to twice a day. Get the bathroom nice and steamy to get those airways open.

Thanks Guys, I have given him some ventolin which seems to help a little. Trying to decide whether or not to take him to his normal doc to see if he needs antibiotics. His CF doc says that if his cough is productive, then start antibiotics. I'm trying to figure out if it is productive today. It is just raspy/wheezy, I wouldn't say junky yet.... I go to see CF doc on Thursday for regular check up. Maybe I should just hold off until then? I just did CPT and can't hear any congestion, just wheezing a little when I push down to do vibes. Oh, its so hard to know what to do sometimes. He's been tested for dustmite which he is not allergic too. He just has food allergies at this stage. It's spring in Aus and this is the time for hayfever and virus's. My gut says he doesn't need antibiotics but don't want to leave it too long if he does. Any suggestions?

He may not need antibiotics but steroids instead (pediapred, orapred, prelone) to clear the wheeze. Or, even just a good antihistamine like benedryl. I'd definitely call the CF drs just to see how long they advise letting him wheeze. 3 days is max for us.
