When do you find the time to workout

I used to walk 4 miles every night ever work. During the winter, I'd walk on the treadmill, nicer weather I'd walk outdoors. Since DS was born 3 years ago, I can't seem to find the time. I get up at 6 a.m. and start CPT and get ready for work. At noon I'm doing laundry, boiling nebs, doing dishes from the night before.... Get home at 5 and it's a rush to get CPT and nebs in, then get supper ready, bath time for DS, try to get him to wind down before bed. One last treatment before bed...

Just trying to figure out when the heck I can get back to exercising. I've taken him for hour long walks with him in the stroller this past summer, but not on a consistent basis. I NEED to get back in the habit, but can't figure out when I can, short of getting up earlier. Argh! I sound like a whiner. It's just a matter of getting back in the habit I suppose. Figure I can get back into running like I did in college --- cut my workout time in half. Just feel like such a slugggggg!

My work was too far away to be able to come home during the lunch "hour", so that is the time I used as "me" time for exercise (we have a gym at work) or socializing.

Do I gather from your post that your kid is in daycare all day and that you come home for lunch in order to do your housework?
Cause, if so, I'd rethink that one. Also, what is your spouse doing when at home? Are the kid/cf-related tasks equally delegated?

Well Liza, when you figure how to get it all in let me know

I knew before I had kid #2 that I was CRAZY to even think I could
pull that off! Now that she needs two hours of treatment
every day it has become insane! Kid #1 has reading homework
every night; husband leaves at 6:30 and is home at 6:30; I'm
supposed to be working full time (thank goodness they are turning a
blind eye to it right now or I would definitely be out of paid
leave).

Like you, I figure I'll have to cut out some of my sleep and get up
earlier. But at least when I am in bed I am actually getting
some sleep now (wasn't sleeping or eating after the diagnosis; only
crying).

Do you think the benefits of good, consistent exercise outweigh the
lost sleep? I think they probably do.

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST and I don't ever want to imply that any of us
on this board has it worse than any other! I just wanted you
to know I'm with you!

As caretakers we are supposed to take care of ourselves.
Easier said than done. I've been easing into a routine
with Katy and her treatments but I have to tackle our next problem
which is she is not eating very much/well. Maybe then I'll
start trying to take better care of myself.
With much empathy for your situation,
Hi I can relate to both of you as a parent of a CFer. I was going to tell the first mom - Wait till your kid has homework too. I have a healthy 12 yr old girl and a 9 yr old boy w cf. It is very hard to get everything done. And YES I work full time - have to especially for the insurance. I'm soo tired all the time - but I still get up at 5:20am to walk with a friend - it can be very stress relieving too. This last year I think the realization of his disease has hit me harder than before - I've managed to gain about 18 pounds this last year - which has just added to my stress level and depression. I'm trying to figure out what to do - the doc said to have my thyroid checked - I think it's just stress. Plus work and home are so busy! So let me know if you find a magic solution - maybe vacation - ha what's that??

Liza,

I do exercise 4-5 days a week, however, I'm staying at home with my 2 children full-time. I'm really not sure how I would fit it in if I worked full-time. I truly need this time exercising for myself and sanity. I was always the type of person who needed some alone time, so exersizing is how I get it. My husband is good about letting me get this time. The way I think of it in my head is I expect my daughter with CF to do about 2 hours a day of nebs and VEST to stay healthy, than I can exersize to keep myself healthy and sane. When Maggie is sick or having an exacerbation of course I am not able to exersize.

On the weekends, while maggie does her VEST/nebs with my husband in charge I'll go for a run. Over the summer, I would get up before 6 am(before my husband would go to work and go for a run. Sometimes he'ld start treatments sometimes not. But I felt better about myself and prepared for the day after a run. i'ld work out all the excess nervousness/anxiety about stuff. Maggie thinks all moms "get sweaty and go for a run". My husband also works out at lunchtime or after work. We each take turns taking care of the kids so we can have that time to ourselves.

That's how we work it out

I really do need to exercise 'cuz I KNOW I'll feel better for it. Think over the noon hour will be my best option. Run on the treadmill for half an hour, shower and had back to the office. Thought about it on the way home and figure I can boil nebs and do dishes after DS's bath or when he's kicking back with Dad doing his tobi. Other thing I NEED to do is have DH take over some of the bathing or winding down for the night duties. He's usually unwinding playing war games on the computer. I just kept thinking if I could get DS down for bed before 9, I'd still have time to work out before his last CPT treatment and MY bedtime at 11. I used to be so organized.

And Dana, you're not alone with the finicky eating. Think I spent the first year crying about the diagnosis, worrying that DS would get sick and worrying that he wasn't getting enough to eat. He just wasn't (still isn't) a big eater. But he's in the 50th percentile, so we must be doing something right.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Basically I just need to get off my butt and get motivated. L

I used to cycle to work daily, but my cycle was stolen. Then we moved up to the upper town and the idea of cycling up a kilometer hill after work is not so appealing.

I also enjoy walking, I joined the local golf club after taking up golf, I try to go at least 3 times a week. After paying all that money, it forces me into using the club, to get my moneys worth so to say.

I also swim but have let that slip also.

Join a club that way if you have paid membership, you would use it.
